PFC Levski to play football and chess against Chess United
The CEO of M-Tel Josef Vinatzer will be the referee of the show
(Sofia, May 2, 2007) Six GMs will face six football champions on May 15 at 12:30 at the stadium Georgi Asparuhov in a clash seen never before.
The teams of Chess United and PFC Levski will compete in two sports. First the two teams will play a football game, then the captains of the two teams will seat behind the chess board.
The coach of Chess United Silvio Danailov has included in his team Veselin Topalov (captain), the Indian Krishnan Sasikiran, the Englishman Michael Adams, the Romanian Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, the American Gata Kamsky and Shakhryar Mamedyarov from Azerbaijan. The six GMs will compete for the title of the super chess tournament M-Tel Masters this year.
The coach of Levski Stanimir Stoilov is still keeping his starting line-up secret, but for sure he will give the captain’s armband to Hristo Yovov.
The two teams will play two halves of 10 minutes each. The referee commission has entrusted the match to a referee famous for his detachment – the Austrian Josef Vinatzer, CEO of M-Tel.
Right after the football clash will begin “The Clash of the Captains” – one against another behind the chess board will stand the 19th World Champion Veselin Topalov and the forward of Levski – Hristo Yovov.
The best and the fairest player will receive prizes from the sponsors of the chess tournament – M-Tel and Bulstrad Life Insurance JSC.

Interesting idea but what if the chess players get hurt?
