Kramnik played in Sunday casual Jeans, shirt and tie. It is quite different than his normal GQ style. He also played his best game in the match. Coincidence? Karma? You decide 🙂
Well, each event is different. But you will not catch me at any chess event with Jeans, even when I gave the world record 326 board simul for 17 hours. Some have no problem showing up with the same clothes for 3 days.
There might be something to this. He can forget being “on stage” and just play chess. I’m like that, more comfortable in casual clothes.
As I remember there was some sort of dress code for this match. It was clear that tasteful dress was required but we didn’t know where the line is drawn.
At least Kramnik wore a tie, otherwise he’d look out of place across from Topalov (and vice versa!)
True buddy, but he is nonetheless a Grand Master ….He has to follow rules too( if there is a rule ,which is what I asked Susan)…
Again, Susan does not wear Jeans to games but I recollect Judit / Alex Kostenuik /Xie jun wearing informal in a couple of tournaments….. So I think as Susan said it depends on the tournament.
@susan – maybe that’s the reason Kramnik plays the WC – match instead of you…
rules are to break – not to hold – and jeans are brave workman’s clothing (at least he, Vladimir, had to change SOMETHING – and success is always right!) – we all look quite equal, without clothing, more or less 🙂 – we are all naked apes (hope u know the book :))…
Sure a trusted friend gave him some advice before this game, “You’ve got the better genes – put yout trust in them to pull you through!”, and so he did!
Kramnik heard that the man with the best genes would prevail in the WCC and so he thought he would show everybody his very best jeans today! Must have been a shock to see that Topalov didn’t even wear a pair of jeans to the game today – but, hey, he won anyway.
Kramnik is obviously an exceptionally acute psychologist; Topalov, not. Jeans after going behind says: ‘nothing to worry about, I’m still chill.’
As does shaking hands whilst sat down. This game was the first time in the match Kramnik has done this, if you look back through previous hand shake photo’s. In the others, Kramnik was clearly dominant: standing over his opponent mostly. In reversing this, Kramnik implies the pressure is all off him, and right back on Topalov. A pertinent decision especially because Topalov sounded relaxed for the first time in the Press Conference after game 9, and even spoke about such matters.
casual is cool.
But these days they’ve managed to hot-wire fritz into the fabric of the jean material, to manipulate the game.
NOT 🙂
The jeans were perfect for hidding his portable chess set… jk
Look at the bulge in his shirt pocket, that is his portable chess set!!!
Susan, it’s fashion, not fasion. (I realize English isn’t your first language. 🙂 )
Susan,
Does chess have “uniform”? Is there a dress code ?? Magnus carlsen does not dress formally but every other player does…

sincerly, Vohaul
GQ forsaken, and the guy looks very cool, very now. Go Kram.
It could be a message that he doesn’t take FIDE serioulsly
All Kramnik’s nice pants are soiled, remember?
Kram is a handsome bloke. Looks quite striking in his new semi-rebel look.

FIDE rules on proper attire are here:
http://fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=C01
and it includes the lines:
“Those with unkempt and greasy hair should be admonished, as well as those wearing old or torn jeans and battered attire generally.”
Thanks Tjallen54…
There you go..so there is no rule for a dress code but overall u shud appear presentable….
Jeans hide your wet patch better.
