Chess world champion arrives in Hungary
Vladimir Kramnik, the reigning chess world champion, arrived in Hungary on Monday afternoon to play eight rapid games with Hungarian grandmaster Peter Leko in Miskolc, NE Hungary, late this month.
Leko has a “bill to settle” with the Russian grandmaster, who defended his title against his challenge at Brissago, Switzerland, two and a half years ago.
At that time Leko stumbled at the finish line, losing the last game and enabling the world champion to bring the total score to a tie, which automatically meant his victory.
Kramnik is visiting Hungary for the third time. In 1992 he was a member of the Soviet team, winning the European championship in Debrecen. In 2001, he played a 12-game rapid series to beat Leko 7-5 in Budapest.

This is a fixed match and will end in a 4-4 tie.
Beautiful architecture in Hungary.

I rather suspect that Leko will have more challenges this time around versus their WC match. Why? Kramnik’s health is simply better and his confidence is restored.

This is exactly what a legitimate World Champion should do, play and promote chess. Good luck to both players!
