Anand deserved the title, says Kasparov

The visible and invisible “Seconds’ were both at work, on and off the board, but there was one more invisible power player, the highest ever rated player on this planet who wanted to give tips to Anand and also wanted him to retain the title.
Frederic Friedel, the owner of one of the biggest Chess software giant ChessBase is one of those whom Anand publicly dedicated his title to, made a startling revealation that Garry Kasparov indeed was following each and every game of the Match and was very keen that Anand win it.
Surprising that Anand and he had been bitter rivals at one stage of their career and had contested a PCA World Championship final in 1995 where Garry had beaten Anand.
Friedel further added: “Garry was calling me everyday after the Match and was literally clapping his hand and jumping with joy at Anand’s achievement. Such great was his enthusiasm!’’
And I think the reason he did this was because basically he likes Anand a lot and admires his skill They had lot of battles on chess board and though Garry lead a very vigorous and aggressive lifestyle, politically, personally and professionally, he is after all a human being and genuinely likes Anand.
When quizzed whether he passed the tips on to Anand, Freidel replied in the negative but added ‘since Anand and his team were working like a well oiled engine, he did not like to distract or disturb the balance.’
“However, I did not bother much because Kasaprov had telephonic conversation with Anand himself before the match and if at all he wanted any help to be delivered, he did it himself,” added Friedel

It doesn’t make much sense…it’s a complete contradiction to his ‘Kramnik will win’ comment…especially when Anand was already 1 point in the lead!
Kasparov behaves like a kid. He is happy with Anand won because he hates Kramnik just because Kramnik smashed out his brain into pieces in 2000 at London. I am sure Kasparov still having nightmares about that match whick Kramnik kicked down him from his king seat! Kramnik is better than Kasparov I strongly believe this!
garry still playing chess off the board. that comment was made to put additional pressure on vlad. this is how i read garry’s psychology:
he doesn’t want anyone to remain unbeaten in a world title match since he got beaten in ’00. kramnik getting beaten now by anand who he had defeated earlier kind of squares it off from his perspective. garry doesn’t love or hate any player. he just loves himself..
Kramnik vs Kasparov: 21 wins 22 (just a slight difference of 1 game) losses 79 draw. Anand vs Kasparov: 8 (yes just 8!) wins and 23 losses and 38 draws. So Kasparov of course will hate Kramnik, Kramnik kicked down him 🙂
please give attention Kramnik has a score of minus 1 against Kasparov but Anand has minus 15 (wow!) That shows Kramnik was better opponent for Kasparov.
some really stupid comparisons and comments.
Kasparov is one of the greatest of all time (for many the greatest) Kramnik is just one of many.
Show some respect and decency (which you Kramnik fans obviously mis).
By the way, I’m not a Kasparov fan: I just recognize what is obvious.
Everyone has an opponent against whom he performs badly (see Tal’s record against Korchnoi). Kramnik was just that for Kasparov.
Kramnik greatnes was and is overrated. He beat Garry yes, but thats basically all he has done. Don’t understand me wrong – Kramnik was and still is without a doubt a world-class player, but not a great one if you look from historical perspective.
that’s the solution anyway. Let us have a WCC match Anand vs Kasparov next year as neither Topalov (looser against Kramnik in 2006; not qualified for the WCC cycle at all) nor Kamsky (not among Top-10 players) will be able to claim to be a contester for world chess champion. As Kamsky “the weak” and Topalov “the looser” cannot even organize their own match let’s do away with both and have Gary back for a re-match against Anand!
“Kasparov is one of the greatest of all time (for many the greatest) Kramnik is just one of many.
Show some respect and decency (which you Kramnik fans obviously mis).”
No one is disputing Kasparov’s greatness as a chess player. But some of the World Champions – Spassky, Smyslov, Tal, Anand and Kramnik – seem also to have been thoroughly decent human beings, while Alekhine was a nasty piece of work, Fischer was nuts, and Kasparov acts and speaks like a spoiled brat. History is littered with examples, such as Isaac Newton, whose greatness is indisputable, but whose qualities as human beings leave everything to be desired.
Kasparov’s immature reactions have been largely responsible for the chaos that has surrounded the World Championship, which it is to be hoped have finally been resolved. And if Kasparov’s reaction to Kramnik’s defeat is churlish, it is appropriate to say so.
went thru the blog comments…great, some bloggers are very decent to put in the correct perspective. What is clear like daylight is Kram is over rated, three fold, his status as a world champion is just a hype. It is indeed a bad mouth smell to compare Kram with Kasparov. Kasparov is great by all means, Kramnik is nowwhere near to him. In the elite groups, we can put capablanca, Kasparov, fischer, anand, karpov etc…not definetly Kramnik. Surely Kramnik is almost the topper, if reading from the bottom of the list. we have seen his greatness during the match with anand, when anand was making spectacular right moves, Kramnik was busy with spectacular blunders…seeing him as a world champion is indeed the glamour lost for the noble game of chess. Nobody want that except the so called Kram fans.
People who know serious chess will not rate Kramnik as anywhere close to Kasparov’s level. Just because Kramnik defeated Kasparove will not elevate him to the dream line, even Kasparov at one time was trailing Kaprov 0-5, still in the history of chess kasparov’s place is above Karpov. For the poor fans of Kramnik, they want Kramnik to be, uderstandably, the gratest, but that is dream in dream. it is just the case when making the tallest buidling with the weakest foundation…it is bound to be flat…that has now happened..the collapse. ironically in the match with anand, Kramnik lost everything, including his artificial reputation. anand’s genius is a class far away, it is disgrace to anand, if Kram is compared with anand…Kram has achieved what he really deserves, he is now more or less a forgotten champion of below par.
Player who oversaw MATE IN 1,in a 120/40 time control chess game can’t be the gretest player.
Oh no!By no means!!
I am glad that we now have an undisputed serious chess champion.
Kasparov
Kasparov needs to rub his own stick and leave Vishy’s alone.
Poor Gary the Hasbeen.
kramnik was a deserving champion. he had had a 2800+ peak elo so obviously can play a bit. maybe not as well as the guy who said “he couldn’t spot a mate in one” but still kram did win a world championship despite his obvious short-comings as a player. so credit to him.
anand is the deserving champion today. this is how i see it. but then again i don’t know much..
