As reported by national pers Indonesian WGM Irene K. Sukandar scored first win over her opponent WGM Tania Sachdev of India. The match gone 4.5 hours with Irene holding white side, playing in Queen Indian opening and the game finished at move 49. “Tania played strong but went to mistakes in final minutes” as commented by Irene. Irene’s (2316) memorable victories included a win over Zhu Chen and Nana Dzagnidze, see her style here (her very own blog).
On the other duel, GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2634) proved to be a stronger opponent for GM Megaranto Susanto (2527). The match clashed in Benoni type with Susanto playing black pieces. The game finished after 39 moves after black resignation. “I went wrong at move 12” admitted Susanto.
The duels were parts of 5th Japfa Chess Festival with many other side events. Official of Indonesian Chess Federation, Kristianus Liem predicted a fair competition in Irene-Tania match but hard one for Megaranto.
