It is amazing that Vishy Anand’s challenger for the World Championship title is actually older than him!! The oldest player in the field of 8, Boris Gelfand, bested all the younger players to earn the right to play for the big one.
Grischuk had many chances to put this match away early but two things always happened:
1. He faltered at various critical moments
2. Gelfand’s stubborn defense
Congratulations to Boris!

S.P. You be lookin’ good sugar plum
Now the biggest task is to find a sponsor
After so many years in the top 20, Gelfand finally peaks! Congrats to him!
Although it seems highly improbable, what an amazing story it would make were he to defeat Anand and become world champion.
Safe to say the match will not be much in the way of fireworks, alas.
No disrespect… I know the Polgar sisters are hott. But geez… on in news of late, Susan been looking hott.
I thought too many chess players were focusing on tactics rather than paying attention… just sayin’ 🙂
Pathetic….the WCC is under a dark cloud for at least 5 more years….it’s sort of sad to look at.
Alexander Grischuk perfectly manipulated the solidly-strong Kramnik with draw-draw, then win-in-rapid.
Maybe Boris Gelfand perfectly manipulated Grischuk by acting as though he would accept a rapid playoff, but Gelfand knew he had white the last round and he might have bet everything on it from game 1.
Most of the candidates had a wise match-strategy.

Well done to Gelfand! Todays game was, at last, a very good game. He deserves to win this event. The bottom line is, Aronian, Kramnik and Topalov just didn’t play well enough. Kamsky and Grischuk did well too, but Gelfand won fair and Sqaure. I still believe Carlsen should face Anand by default and that the candidates matches doesn’t make sense, to me anyway (probably alot of people too), but good luck to Gelfand, I hope he gives Anand a good match.
Very impressive win. Congratulations GM Gelfand! Well deserved victory. Good luck to both players in their match. No matter who wins, we will have a World champion with class.
“Grischuk had many chances to put this match away..”
And vice versa dear Susan. And vice versa..
Congrats to Boris Gelfand!
And don’t make mistake and think he will be easy nut to crack for Anand 🙂
Congratulations to Gelfand and his outlandish fur hat. Both will make magnificent sacrificial victims at the WC chess alter of Anand.
What a nice picture of Susan. She will now challenge Anand, right ? Btw – why is this guy (Gelfand ?) shown there ? What is he doing there ?
He he .. My dark horse in finals. It was funny to see Gelfand’s opponents leading him in polls.
However knowing the past results, does Boris have chance against Vishy??
The candidates cycle (especially Gelfand-Kamsky Match) leads to a question to the Chess players play the Board or do they play opponent??
