Deepan, three others share lead
NEW DELHI: Grandmaster Deepan Chakkravarthy defeated young talent K. Priyadarshan to be among the four leaders after three rounds of the second Subic International Open chess tournament at Subic in the Philippines on Tuesday.
On a double-round day, when several Indian GMs failed to maintain perfect scores, Madurai-based Deepan shared the lead with Vietnam’s Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, China’s Xiu Deshun and the Philippines’ Richard Bitoon.
The day saw top seed Surya Shekhar Ganguly draw with China’s untitled youngster Yu Yangyi, who earlier in the day accounted for third seed Parimarjan Negi.Abhijeet loses
World junior champion and fifth seed Abhijeet Gupta lost to Xiu Deshun while Sandipan Chanda, seeded six, drew with Chinese International Master Yang Kaiqi.
In the second round, Priyadarshan upstaged 11th seeded Vietnamese GM Nguyen Anh Dung.
