hmmmmmmmm.Russia is really slacking off these days…..it shows. Chess is no longer Russias game. Guess thats ok.
Remember when the Chinese women swimmers in the Olympics a decade or so ago had huge rippling muscles? They swore it was not steriods but, rather, some “nutritional supplements” derived from caterpillar fungus…
Recently, the Chinese women’s chess team crushed Russia and everyone else. Now, the men are crushing Russia. Could there be some chess equivalent of “caterpillar fungus”? [Not nutritional but communicational instead.]
yup. i think its a mixture of turtle’s blood and herbs
First any mixed event with at least 1/2 being women’s matches will always favor China. The Chines women beat the Russian women 7.5 to 2.5 in this case. Also take away the fact that several of the good Russian players didnt play (even not including the elite) whereas all the top Chinese GMs have played.
That said, there is no doubt that China & India are the rising powers. In Men’s Chess, India has Harikrishna, Sasikiran and a fast rising Negi to complement Anand. China has Bu Xiangzhi, Wang Yue and Wang Hao, all of whom can conceivably reach 2700 sooner rather than later.
In women’s Chess, China is already up there (Xue Zhao, Xu Yuhua, Xie Jun) and is likely to stay there years with juniors Hou Yifan, Shen Yang, Lufei Ruan and Ju Wenjun. India’s Koneru Humpy should be going past 2600 after her strong performance in the Abu Dhabi Open which ended yesterday. Harika Dronavalli is already the third rated junior.
Ukraine and Armenia had a bunch of promising juniors in the Men’s section a few years ago. It is not surprising that these countries performed tremendously in the recent olympiads. Now, based on the strength in the juniors, I see India and China doing well in the future.
This is a ridiculous match. China sends its best players, while Russia sends its 2nd tier players. The best ones are preparing for Mexico or playing in other tournaments. So, the talk of “domination” is misleading. I’d like to see the Chinese men crush Kramnik, Svidler, Morozevich, etc. Then it would be much more impressive.
Well I am impressed. The Americans certainly could not perform so well.
How come America is not supporting its best and brightest with the very best training?
Give credit where its due. Alekseev is the russian champion, Jakovenko has risen 70 points in the last 6 months for a whooping 2735 ELO in the last rating list. Inarkiev and Timofeev aren’t really your average grandmaster… I’d say the chinese are comming up faster than expected. 10 years from now I have no doubt they’ll be the absolute dominant force at the junior level.
When is the starting time of the games in Moscow time
