A former Fort Collins chess coach pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting three of his students, but he avoided a prison sentence.
…Under the terms of the plea agreement, Snyder will serve two years in the Larimer County Detention Center for the unlawful sexual contact charge and will spend the rest of his life on sex offender intensive supervised probation.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Rather disturbing news. Chess coaches don’t seem to be too far behind Step-dads and Priests in the child abuse stakes these days.
This is not a good thing for chess.
Susan:
If/when you are elected to the USCF what can you do to provide better protection for children from the wrong sort of chess coaches?
Very disturbing and isn’t this the second case of child sex abuse by a chess coach in recent months? I don’t know whether it is more rampant among chess coaches than other teachers of young children but chess does provide opportunities for abuse at travel tournaments. I think most parents today would not allow their children to travel to tournaments with coaches and/or stay in the same hotel rooms without parental supervision. But I am troubled by the fact that anyone can call themselves a chess coach and that schools routinely hire coaches without any kind of background checks, etc. As someone noted in another post, titles like FIDE Master, International Master and Grand Master may mean that someone is a good chess player but they don’t mean that they are a good chess teacher or coach.
unfortunately normal school teachers are running wild with sexual assaults on the children. Even many female teachers who are having sex with young males.
Apparently over 300 such teachers per month or 3600 per year. That is a lot of teachers gone sexual on our children.
here is a link that tries to monitor them. but they come on very fast.

I do not know if the information given in this blog is correct. But it appears to be trying to do an honest job. You will have to decide for yourself. I only ran into this blog spot today. I have no history monitoring it.
I was looking to see what happened with the New Hampshire case of Severine Wamala a teacher at Lowell high school head of math dept.
I now find there is an epidemic of teachers sexually abusing children going on in america. I can only guess that it has always been happening but now it is coming to light. This problem is apparently a much bigger problem then I ever imagined.
I am not so worried about chess. This is not a good thing for the children. This kind of abuse can negatively crush a person for his or her entire life.
I believe this is a rotten apple that has been hidden for hundreds of years. We are now facing the issue. Hopefully leadership will come forth and the problem will be solved. But we need leadership in the entire society not just in chess.
What a monster !
I am looking over that blog spot. down the right hand column there is a list of all the states with a list of the offenders. but all the offenses are not for sexual problems. they seem to include all problems. or all arrests. although there are many sexual offenses listed.
There are 31 listed for child Pornography in 2007 and we are only a couple of days into 2007. incredible. here is that list.

Here’s a url to a registry that anyone can use to discover what convicted sex offender might be living next to you. I was shocked at how many were living in my neighborhood and some close to schools, too. It only covers the United States:
