a. Capablanca b. Karpov c. Kramnik d. Smyslov e. Fischer f. A. Rubinstein g. 5.5 piece Nalimov endgame tablebase 🙂 h. Kasparov i. Your personal nomination
All those listed are/were extremely strong in the endgame. Also Averbakh was not bad. In fact, Morozevich is VERY good at endgame but most people don’t know that because he crushes them long before endgame is reached 🙂
Bobby Fischer. Susan I think you over looked Bobby here. Fischer had the ability to calculate and see a great many moves ahead. GM Sune Berg Hansen recently stated during a lecture that Bobby was the best endgame player he ever seen! 1 great endgame Fischer actually mates in the middle of the board in a very long end game! In another game Bobby sacs his remaining piece and is left with only pawns vs his opponents B, who resigns on the spot, because Bobby’s pawns cant be stopped from Queening on either side of the board! TFK
I think Susan is asking a legitimate chess question. Why such sarcasm!? Asd for the (I assume chess player”), Sune Berg Hansen is competing in the Olympiad knucklehead! Hes a Danish GM who sometimes lectures and plays on Worldchessnetwork. TFK
“I think Susan is asking a legitimate chess question. Why such sarcasm!?”
Sarcasm shields up!
The question is not very legitimate. It implies I know the definition of chess endgame, which I don’t. The text implies that I know the “endgames” of all players listed, which I don’t. I never heard of Rubinstein, nor seen any of his games, let alone endgames, for example. Also, what is 5.5 piece Nalimov? I don’t have time to search the Internet for answers. The question may be ok for chess pros, but not for me, you and many others. What is the point of the question, I also don’t get.
Of course, for me, it´s A. Rubinstein no one else had had such a feeling for the chances, even if he hasn´t seen it yet. For example his wrong move, too make the right move of the King after analysation
I am.
Rubinstein

Karpov
I will have to second Rubinstein. His endgame intuition and skill was second to none.
As for modern players, I’m really not sure.
Rubinstein
Kramnik, without any doubt.
Definitely Kasparov.
Kortchnoi outplayed Karpov in the endgame in the 78 match.

I have to agree with those who said Rubinstein.
Smyslov
I’d be pretty surprised if 1/10 bloggers knew the definition of chess endgame, without checking up on the dictionary.
ENDGAME COMES WHEN QUEENS GET OFF THE BOARD. If they remain, ENDGAME COMES WHEN ROOKS GO OFF THE BOARD. Etc.
Ah? Blog attack?
The greatest endgame master has not been programmed yet. Oops, sorry, I meant born.
The worst endgame GM player is easier: in the last 3 years, it’s none else than Gary Kasparov!!!
“Who is the greatest endgame player?”
This question is a big joke. Who is writing these, anyway?
OK, let’s try. Kirsan?
“Who is the greatest endgame player?”
Susan, you’re a trainer, historian and player, you should know the answer. Why ask us mortals?
Botvinnik
Nino Khurtidze.
“Sune Berg Hansen”
Who is he?
obviously kramnik
note that kramnik is the only modern player on that list!!
I think Susan is asking a legitimate chess question. Why such sarcasm!? Asd for the (I assume chess player”), Sune Berg Hansen is competing in the Olympiad knucklehead! Hes a Danish GM who sometimes lectures and plays on Worldchessnetwork.
TFK
Smyslov. Then Akiba Rubinstein. Among fairly recent players, how about Ulf Andersson?
Rook Endgames….Akiba Rubenstien
Smyslov
Minor Pieces…..Fischer
Queen…………Botvinnik
Reshevsky
Overall……….Lasker
Capablanca
Alekhine
Kramnik
Karpov
Karpov. I wish I could play like Karpov.
To Mayanking:
Queen Endings : Best player is Geza Maroczy
Edmar Mednis and Fred Reinfeld
Go USA!!
I agree that Rubinstein and Botvinnik should be added to the “short list”.
I really do not know who to rank first. Personally I have learned a lot of endgame play by games of Capablanca.
Capablanca by far of those listed. I would also like to make a nomination of Victor Korchnoi.
I would say the largest gap in endgame play between a player and his contemporaries would lie with Casablanca.
Umm … ‘p,’ not ‘s’ … sorry …
None of the mentioned players understood much about endgames.
“Sune Berg Hansen is competing in the Olympiad knucklehead!”
You’re a knucklehead, bro, and your friend Hansen is an unknown grandmaster.

And – keep it civil!
to me (and to Capablanca, too) the MASTER OF CHESS ENDGAME is, was and will keep
1.Emanuel Lasker
sincerly, Vohaul
Ken Thompson’s Engame Tablebases
Of course, for me, it´s A. Rubinstein no one else had had such a feeling for the chances, even if he hasn´t seen it yet. For example his wrong move, too make the right move of the King after analysation
it is topalov
Carlsen…nowadays no one come close
Ulf Andersson
Vasily Smyslov no doubt
Where is carlsen?
