Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
This is a chance for Kramnik to go back to above 2800.
Better chance for Ivanchuk- he has 3 points more in virtual rating, and is counted as 48 less than Kramnik in this event so will gain maybe 6 or 7 more points for the same score?
Also Ivanchuk gets more whites.
Kramnik will need 6/7 to break 2800from Dortmund, while Ivanchuk just needs 5/7.
Kramnik would have 2802.9 virtual for 6/7, Ivanchuk 2801.5 virtual for 5/7.
Go Peter!!!!!
Kramnik needs 5/7 just to gain rating points at all- while Ivanchuk will be virtual 2802 with 5/7!

ARNOLD DENKER(US CHAMPION 1944-46)
Vassily Ivanchuk is going to give Vladimir Kramnik, what Arnold Denker used to say to his opponents, “I’m gonna give ya a Klobberation!”
It would be nice if Ivanchuk could play like in Mtel and win all his mini-matches against his opponents! (this would mean 7/7)
The average rating is below 2695, as compared to near 2740 at Mtel.
The one thing in Ivanchuk’s favor is that he’s been avoiding his major time scramble problems (with a few exceptions at Mtel). As long as he’s not fatigued, he should perform reasonably well in this field. Kramnik may be a bit cold after taking several months off.
Magnus chose the easier tournament.
I hate this “ELO run” : what importance ? Don’t forget that, for low differences, 7 points difference means an expectation of 51%. Just a crazy joke…
Biel (and Olympiads) : I think that if Carlsen wants to become world champion (possible, absolutely not certain), he should only play in extremely top tournaments. Considering this, Biel is not, and at the Olympiads Norway’s team is not strong enough and Carlsen will probably not have the opportunity to play against real top players.
Magnus chose the easier tournament.
No. He won last year, and has to defend the title.
Yes, he chose the easier tournament. He did so even last year!
I can’t believe it’s not butter!
