Ukrainian Natalya Buksa wins World Chess Championship in Russia

Another Ukrainian victory over Russia on the chess board.
Ukraine-born Natalya Buksa has won the Youth World Chess Championship held in Russia’s town of Khanty-Mansiisk.
The 19-year-old girl scored 10 out of 13 possible scores. Natalya won eight games, had four draws and only once failed. She defeated her rivals by half a point.
Russian chess player Alina Bivol came second, while the bronze medal went to Zhansaya Abdumalik, a representative of Kazakhstan. Both girls gained 9.5 points.
Ukraine recently had success at the European Women’s Chess Championship, afterUkrainian Natalya Zhukova won the contest, beating off stiff competition.
Also in April Ukrainian Mariya Muzychuk defeated Russian-grandmaster Natalija Pogonina by a score of 2:1 making the 22-year-old from the Lviv region the new Women’s World Champion.
President Petro Poroshenko wrote on Twitter: “I am congratulating Natalya Buksa on her victory at the Youth World Chess Championship in Russia. Ukrainian women are the best”.
