I firmly believe that the poor marketing and promotion of chess has hindered the growth of organized chess in the United States, and I would like to share with you some questions that were recently asked by J. LeMoine, J. Sanchez and B. Higgins. These questions were directed to FM Paul Truong, one of the most successful people in chess marketing and promotion.
Confusion with the April 2007 FIDE rating list
As I reported last month, Anand and Carlsen were leading Morelia/Linares after nine rounds. In the end, Anand pulled away and won this super-tournament by a full point.
Queen City Classic in Cincinnati
I spent the last few days promoting chess at the Queen City Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio. This event was organized by the Cris Collinsworth ProScan Foundation. Cris Collinsworth was a pro-bowl wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals and one of the most well-known football commentators and analysts in the country. Co-founders of the foundation are Penny and Dr. Stephen Pomeranz, one of the foremost experts in MRI technology.

Hi Susan,
I have a question which’s not directly connected to the post – can you explain the rules of castling in Fischer Random? I’m just too lazy to search for it on the net.
Thanks a lot!
Very good article on Chess Cafe about using the press. Clear and concise.
However, the question is why this sort of article isn’t in Chess Life or some other USCF publication.
In reality, the USCF does not ultimately seem to be concerned with chess promotion. That’s why a lot of local organizers where I live call it the USeLess Chess Federation!
Why? Because the USCF politicians hate Paul Truong. He’s good and he knows what he’s doing. He also doesn’t care for chess politics. So they’re afraid of him. He makes them look bad through his constant success. Chessville.com showed that he got more media coverage for events he’s promoting than the entire USCF.
Welcome to the sad state of the USCF.
I’m glad you gave this interview with Paul wider distribution. It deserved it. I feel privileged to have been part of the project.
