According to the Chief Financial Officer of the USCF Mr. Joe Nanna, the US Chess Federation under the leadership of President Bill Goichberg, Vice President Jim Berry, Vice President of Finance Randy Bauer, and Executive Director Bill Hall, lost $419,968 in the first 6 months of this fiscal year. With the $374,626 bequests, the federation still lost $45,342 year to date! There are still 5 months left in this fiscal year!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
And Bill Goichberg / Jim Berry want another 4 years by running for the EB again? Are you kidding me?
I’m impressed that the USCF even had $400,000 to lose!
They got 2 bequests of $400,000 from 2 members who recently passed away. That’s how they have the money.
time for a USCF bailout bill
Is this the doing of Sam Sloan or what?
and the role of Susan in this is?
Susan isn’t involved in the finances at all. It’s the VP of Finance, the President and ED.
Goichberg is now backing Berry and himself for another 4 years along with Mike Atkins, Ruth Haring and 2 others guys who have done nothing in chess or for chess.
How is it possible for the federation to lose so much money? Isn’t there an oversight committee to look out for financial abuse? Why are Goichberg and Berry running again? Have they no shame?
I am bequesting a hearty laugh to the USCF. Anything else and they’d squander it.
All of these incompetent people should resign promptly.
This is terrible news. How is possible to lose so much? Someone should be axed for this.
USCF now stands for United States Chess FAIL.
Do you know we could have sent Gata to the world cahmpionship like 50 times with this money!
We need a class action lawsuit now!
We need to sure Goichberg’s and BErry’s businesses for the lost money. This is worse than Wall Street raping the peoples fianances.
Yes, This is a sad time for chess in the United States. I am not sure I ever plan on being a USCF member again and for that part returning to the tournament scene. Not unless somebody can hold these people accountable for their net losses. It is quite obvious that chess in the United States is not on the right track. The only thing positive i have personally witnessed is the work of Susan Polgar and Paul Truong. For that I commend them and extend my hand in thank you. If there is anything I could do to personally accomodate their campaign for USCF president or another organization to support chess I would be more than willing.
Of course, I do not know all of the stories, but is it really necessary when you have such an unacceptable financial bind? I seriously doubt it.

Good! I hope they put a record of $1 million by the end of the fiscal year! They’re so good at making the number bigger.
Wait a minute… “lost”??!?
Now I have to preface this by saying I’m currently not a USCF member, but I have been a number of times in the past.
Why are there no USCF members bringing suit against the dunderheads causing these lawsuits? The way I see it is because of these suits the USCF membership is being devalued. No more Chess Life in a couple years, the USCF going into more debt which means the membership costs will likely increase at some time. Possible future USCF bankruptcy rendering a USCF membership worthless. Not even just an individual suit, but a class action suit against those causing these lawsuits. The ones that are being paid for by the USCF at least.
The state of the USCF is despicable.
Perhaps Bill Goichberg even knows these actions will bankrupt the USCF and therefore put his own CCA in a much stronger financial position. Isn’t this the definition of conflict of interest almost?
The life members of the USCF have by far the most to lose I would guess.
I for one am glad someone as strong as Susan is standing up to these clowns and wish more would join in the fight.
Lost? Is that the right word? Surely, the author means they spent that money and spent over budget?
At least that’s how we would word it on the other side of the Atlantic.
The gentleman who left the largest sum to the USCF was foolish to attach no strings.
Unless the bequest is spent to pay down the USCF building mortgage, this rare gift will soon be frittered away.
Layoffs or paycuts, Susan its hard but everyone is felling the hard times. And USCF needs an overhaul completely. And more internet events. I.E. E-mail tourney’s and so on.
