When I was asked a few years ago to name some of the brightest names that will rule Women’s Chess, my top pick was Humpy Koneru of India. Today, I have to add one more name to the list: Yifan Hou of China.
Humpy is #2 rated active woman player in the world at 2575 and Yifan is #6 at 2513. Both have unlimited potentials to stay at the top for a long time. Both will eventually surpass the 2600 mark.
Some other names with the potentials to really excel are: Anna Muzychuk 2474, Dronavalli Harika 2467, Kateryna Lahno 2467, etc. They are all talented. They all have the abilities to become strong Grandmasters. What will seperate them in the next 10 years are their abilities to stay focus in chess to improve and their levels of motivation.
You’re right. The 3 Russian Ks are done.
Are you upset Humpy will top your rating as the #2 women’s player of all time? (I’d guess you probably aren’t)
I am very happy to see someone else doing well. It’s by time some young players stepping up to the plate. I am very happy for Humpy.
Best wishes,
