These are the current top players that were born in 1985 or later:
Radjabov, Teimour g AZE 2729
Mamedyarov, Shakhriyar g AZE 2728
Navara, David g CZE 2725
Carlsen, Magnus g NOR 2698
Naiditsch, Arkadij g GER 2676
Harikrishna, P. g IND 2674
Karjakin, Sergey g UKR 2672
Bu, Xiangzhi g CHN 2671
Timofeev, Artyom g RUS 2662
Volokitin, Andrei g UKR 2645
They are all talented. But what would it take for these players to rise to the level of Kasparov, Karpov, Kramnik, Anand, Topalov, etc.? Which one of these players have the most complete game? And which one has the best chance to break 2800?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Susan,
I am glad for the question as I was thinking about it lately.
My prediction is that the next WC is Krayakin. Because of “K”. I don’t think you can be a world champion these days if your name doesn’t start with “K”. (Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik – kar-kas-kra!
you may add Kasimjanov too, if you wish, though he is only a fide champ) Carlsen gets close, same voice. As an Azeri, I would love to see either Mamedyarov or Radjabov becoming WC. So, my top 4 are: Mamedyarov,Radjabov,Karyakin, Carlsen (ordered by age).
Azer/Baku
Susan, the answer is none.
At least not in the next 5 years, until Topalov, Kramnik, Anand, Morozevich and Svidler are at top of their Peak, one of this youngesters to go to 2800 rating, would logically have to mean, beating the living daylights out of them, all of them, which i think they cant do, at least not so soon. Ok, but maybe its just me.
P.S. I wonder what would be score of any top 5 player vs. Radjabov match. Besides those youngesters should firts try to win some big events, few Linares, Dortmund etc…and not to call upon theirs 2700+ rating to chalange the true champs! Go Topalov!
WANG HAO!!
FIDE 2622, 1989 born
When opponent name WANG then you wish you do not play chess ever! chineze power.
Carlsen is unstoppable, he is already the strongest 15 year old player, the world has ever seen.
The question is not if Carlsen will break 2800, but when he will do it.
Mamedyarov and Radjabov are much older, they both used 3 years to go from 2600 to 2700. Carlsen has done 2698 in less than a year!
My prediction is that Carlsen now spend a year at ~2700, before making another boost forward. Karjakin might catch up with him ELO wise this periode, but will fall behind again.
In 3 years time, Carlsen is still a junior… scary.
Nakamura
It would be Radjabov, Karyakin and Carlsen – those 3 mark a new era being the first generation that grew up using very strong chess software.
I vote for Carlsen!
Volokitin plays almost like Topalov – very attractive!!! I like their style and may be everyone loves watching live games with them! May be Volokitin is next?
“I don’t think you can be a world champion these days if your name doesn’t start with “K”. (Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik – kar-kas-kra!
you may add Kasimjanov too”
In the Uzbek language, which uses Latin script, his name is written with a Q! That’s why nobody took his title seriously.
If Volokitin plays like Toiletov…I mean Topalov, then he could be not the WC=World Champ but the WC=Water-Closet champ. Water-Closet is that little room in the house where the toilet is (for those who don’t know). Please, do not comparate. Toiletov is Toiletov and Volokitin is Volokitin. Sorry my comment it sound harsh but It would be more appropiate to abbreviate WCC=World Chess Champion instead of WC=Water-Closet, you know for reasons of Toiletgate. Cheers!
I think Shak can break the 2800-wall.
Maybe the style of Magnus is too aggressive to kick of regulary the 2700-players.
Its time for the big tournaments like Linares, Wijk, etc for Magnus to see if i am right or not.
There is the Tal Memorial from 5-19 november in Moskow.
Carlsen and Mamedyarov will play there, the others are are Svidler, Morozevich, Aronian, Leko, Gelfand, Shirov, Grischuk and Ponomariov. For those who can read Russian
http://www.64.ru/?/ru/news/item=1312
My money is on Radjabow
I just read that Judit will play at the Tal Memorial in blitz. I am eager too see her there and to cheer for her, especially against the current blitz champion Anand.
Susan will you cover the Tal Memorial here live?
Susan, u must be kidding…
“what would it take for these players to rise to the level of Kasparov, Karpov, Kramnik, Anand, Topalov, etc.?”
Karpov = GREAT!
Kasparov = GREAT!
Kramnik = GREAT!
Anand = GREAT !
…but please don’t include Cheatalov in lists like this…thank you.
Karpov and co deserve more respect than that!
thx
Oh yea: Magnus Carlsen will be the future of Chess. In like 5 years he will be world champ and nr1 in rating! 😀
it won’t be 2800 in 10-15 years….
it’ll be 2850..
hehheheh
In norway moast people with the name Carlsen(10%) writes it with K Karlsen(90%) so i think the K factor is ok 🙂
Geir
I put a look on the fide list, and something strange:
Afromeev,Vladimir f RUS 2628 21 1954
That’s a cheater ! a great one! a simple fide player with a rating beyond all expectations! If i remembered well he told somwhere that he could crush the crisan’s record, seems he was right then… And what is fide doing against cheaters?
Nothing… as usual …
“I am eager too see her there and to cheer for her, especially against the current blitz champion Anand”
Grischuck is the current blitz world champion. He won against Svidler on tiebreaks this year.
I mean Topalov, then he could be not the WC=World Champ but the WC=Water-Closet.
Kramnik is in reality such a champion. He has spent a lot of time in WC.
C(K)arlsen is still 15 … with 15 i – for example – was fiercely interested in chess, in checkers, in 7-men-morris, in soccer, in boxing, in table tennis and especially in youth work at our local church (not a joke!)
things changed completely when i managed to become 16 …
my main interest then were girls first, girls second and girls third (this period of my life did a lot harm to me … :(( )… later on i continued to play soccer (for hormonal adjustment), table tennis (for reactional adjustment) and a little chess (just for fun).
what i want to say is: let’s wait and have tea, especially with Magnus Carlson (he seems not to be the sort of chess maniac other prodigys were, at the same age – e.g. Fischer or Reshevsky or Tal)
look what happened to Karjakin last year, his rating dropped to 2650+, i’m quite sure for puberty reasons (an experience Carlsen still has to face …)
chess is not like tennis or other athletic sports; you can not control hormones by thinking, but by physical activity …
my guess for the most talented “young gun” is still Karjakin, followed by Navara and Mamedjarov, then Carlsen, Volokitin and Radjabov.
just my two pence…
In the next 5-7 years, I, too, don’t believe any of these players will become the world champion only because Kramnik and other super-GM’s will still be playing.
Now, beyond that…it’s difficult to say.
Dear Susan,
I know that there are many talented young men around, but how about talented young women.
How about Hou Yifan, will she become a 2700 player in the future!? I hope there will be more female players in the top rankings!!
PATTERNS:
Magnus Carlsen is another “K”,
He is from Norway,
From Norway the Vi”K”ings are,
So, he a Vi-King is,
Will a Krouned King some day he be?
May be so,
Hope so,
For Kolgar a Kueen I’ll vouch,
Although she already is.
No hopes on Car-Jac-“K”ing I’ll lose,
See? another “K”.
Volo”K”itin ain’t that a Kay?
Please, “K”amsky also do not let us forget what a “K” you’ll be.
Na”K”amura please come back.
And Grischu”K”? Remember him?
Le”K”o my friend,
and if someone I forgot
apologies here.
Polin.
Sorry my mistake – Anand rapid chess champion, not blitz chess champion.
No one can predict how the future of theses young players will unfold…
Dear Susan,
This is really an interesting question i was also thinking about these young guns who will at least make it to the semifinals of candidates matches..Personally i like the style of Magnus Carlsen but i believe Teimoir Radjabov has a better chance of making it not only because he has a more universal style but also of his deeper understanding of every difficult position he encountered and being able to transform it into a win…Good Luck to you teimor!!
