Correction.
Against Svidler it was 1-1 and then 1.5-0.5 in the rapids.
Game score: 6 wins 10 draws, plus 1 win 1 draw in rapids.
Wow!
Gratulations to Kamsky and good luck in the following match(es) against Topalow and possibly against the world champ.
Congrats to the second Shirov, though the loss in the final a good achievement!
Thanks to all players for the excitement they brought to us!
Regards
Jochen
Great for Kamsky. I read on Mig’s blog that he won $120,000. That should help pay for a second but will the USCF be providing any support?
Kamsky dealt with these short matches very well- win every match +1 in the classical games seems to have been his plan- only Svidler survived to a tie-break.
Very impressive how he came out running in every match. 2 games was apparently enough for him to show his superiority apart form one match!
comngratualations, is kamsky soprt of the caliber of kramnik???
jb.
i think shirov lost mainly because fire gets melted on ice, on réel vie aussi, hje..
jb.
p,d u cant risk too much against a positional solid player unless its quick blitz or u name is tahl!
About Kamsky
Returning to the top after more than 20 years is one of those amazing comeback stories that the general public loves to hear. Yet, there is so little known about him… He is now a celebrity, perhaps a model and a hero to many. We all love winners and wish to hear more about them. Will we learn more about his life, his family, etc?
I agree with the last poster. Good time for an interview with Kamsky. I don’t know the facts but there is potentially a good story there — of a talented kid pushed by an overbearing chess dad (at least according to rumours) who left chess to pursue other goals but came back and made it to the top (or at least close to the top) on his own terms. Also, in an age of phenoms like Carlsen and Robson, how nice to shine a spotlight on a chess player reaching his peak closer to middle age than adolescence.
GM Kamsky played very impressively. He has now proven he is amongst the strongest players in the world. Considering the fact that professional chess players face the toughest odds to even make a living from it, he did a very wise thing by taking a break and earnin a law degree. He can always earn a living from that.
However, he’s now going to face Topalov. I really hope he will defeat him and play for the WCC. However, Anand…I don’t think Kamsky can take him in a match.
But, then again, I didn’t think Kamsky would win this tournament either!
Never count him out. He’s proven he’s a fighter and no matter what, he earned this victory.
Congrats to GM Shirov, too! I cannot imagine the stress these players are under. So, to all that participated in this tournament…thank you for a great chess tournament and we should all be happy for GM Kamsky.
Mr. Topalov…you better begin studying!!!
Plus, Kamsky earned a nice payday! Good for him!
Apparently, Kamsky only loses matches when his crazy father is with him.
With a crazy parent, second, or manager, no chessplayer would stay at the top long. Topalov did you hear that?
The USCF will not help out at all. Kamsky is on his own.
It is sad that a top notch player will receive no help from the USCF.
The USCF is a bunch of bozo’s with the exception of Susan and Paul.
Congratulations to Gata Kamsky on winning the World Cup. I sincerly hope that the USCF and all American chess players support and assist him in his match with Topalov.
Congrats to Kamsky! His law degree and training will come in handy against Topalov! Here is his most recent interview from earlier this year:
http://www.mtelmasters.com/en/interviews&article_id=23.html
Notice that only his strongest 2 opponents scored more than 25% against him: Svidler and Shirov (both over 2750 on the next list) scored 37.5% against him. Svidler did best considering his loss was in rapid.
Of all Kamsky’s opponents, only Ponomariov had lost a game earlier in the cup before losing to Kamsky.
Congratualations to Gata Kamsky!!
From CLO:
After winning, Gata celebrated by eating dinner at a restaraunt in downtown Khanty-Mansisyk with his second GM Emil Sutovsky and four or five members of World Cup press team. He didn’t go all out though: he had just a little champagne, a simple dinner of meat and potatoes.
We got used to seeing other players with their wives with them, notably
Anand, Leko, more recently Kramnik, sometimes Shirov, etc. With fame and high achievements the natural curiosity of people increases. Kamsky wears a ring and it was mentioned somewhere that he got married. Obviously his private life is just private, but will he ever open up and tell more about his family?
HERE IT IS:
Kamsky verses Topolov
Kramnik verses Anand
Then it will be:
Kamsky verses Kramnik
Kamsky will win the World Championship.
THE REASON:
Look at the previous world champions: Korchnoi, Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik.
It is obvious that another K will win, possibly Kramnik will retain but probably Kamsky will prevail.
The only thing is Kamsky needs a good Second. My hope is that Bobby Fischer will recover from his illness and help another American to win the Championship! Think of it!
Kamsky and Fischer !!!
Fischer is no longer an American. He forfeited his citizenship. Just because the stork dropped him in New York doesn’t make him “American”. He hates this country, is a fugitive, and GM Kamsky can do just fine withouth the help of an elderly, anti-semitic, racist with severe mental problems.
Kamsky played rock solid chess.Congrats. I was never a Kamsky fan ever since his father Rustam’s horrific behaviour towards Anand. I believe he even passed out death threats! Anand lost that match from a commanding position, but later soundly thrashed Kamsky, after his father was restrained from interfering. Anyway Danailov watch out. Rustam the tartar is coming!
