Pair compete in chess tournament

Seth Bergeron, 11, and Kate Bergeron, 7, competed in the Susan Polgar National Chess Open Championship for boys and girls March 1-3 in New Orleans. A world-famous grandmaster, Polgar was born in Hungary and is a four-time women’s world champion and five-time Olympic chess champion.
Seth placed 10th in the third- through fifth-grader boy’s division, and boys 3-5 grade division and Kate placed first in the kindergartner through second-grade girl’s division.
Seth and Kate are home school students who attend E-Learning through the Virtual Academy of Lafourche.
Kate was invited to the 10th annual Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Chess Invitational in July at Webster University in St. Louis.
