Heath Ledger’s family has given the City of Melville in Perth’s southern suburbs a gift of public artwork in memory of their son.
A polished concrete and marble sculpture of a chess board and a yin and yang symbol has been placed at Heathcote Reserve overlooking the Swan River.
Ledger’s mother Sally Bell says the family chose the site because her son cared about the environment and spent much of his youth in the Applecross area.
People will be able to use the sculptures to play their own games of chess.
Ledger’s family flew out to Los Angeles from Perth yesterday to attend the Oscars on Monday AEDT.

He looks like the Joker even without makeup. The poor guy killed himself because of bad hair, I am certain.
