The above is the brand new Polgar Olympic Chess Set. It is a premium high quality super heavyweight plastic set. I guess after 10 Olympic medals including 5 Gold and having never lost an Olympiad game in a record 56 consecutive matches earned me a chess set with my name 🙂 Either that or they name chess sets after really old people 🙂
OK, all kidding aside, the forum is YOURS! Post about anything you want from the USCF election, the Rising Star vs. the Experience Match in Amsterdam, the US Open, the Montreal event to the 2007 World Championship in Mexico City, etc. Or you can ask a question if you wish. I will try to answer as many as I can. Have fun!
Hi Susan,
I know that you are trying to create a chess-related TV show. Could you tell if there is anything in the works?
Also, you mentioned couple months ago that you will have a special tournament in NY in November for girls. Do you have any details?
Thanks,
Diana
Still cooking. Still have not reached the right agreements yet. Will update as soon as I have it.
I will post the tournament info in probably a day or so.
Best wishes,

Zsuzsi, a sakk-készletnél csak te vagy szebb! 🙂
Hi Susan,
Thanks for the Open Forum.
Question: What strange things have ever happened during one of your simuls?
(For example, have you ever had to play on a very “non-standard” set with indistinguishable pieces, or has one of your pieces ever been moved or removed unexplainably when you return to a board?)
One young child made 2 sets of triple moves and 3 sets of double moves in one of the tandem simuls.
He did not know the rules and was analyzing on the board. Then he forgot to take the analysis back.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

What are the must see sights for someone visiting Hungary?
and
On the USCF site it shows a picture of Paul laughing at Bill Goichberg’s “stolen rook” story. They do not share this story though. Will you share it please?
Susan,
What is a good line for White (your preference) to play in tournaments if one wants to avoid the open sicilian and still get a decent advantage?
e.g. closed sicilian? c3? Bb5? other?
thanks.
The US Open has seemed like a great success on many levels. What are your thoughts on this?
vvchess, closed Sicilian or King’s Indian Attack are both fine.
Jerry, the tournament has a number of organizational problems.
The most disappointed part is the EB and the Scholastic Council did not object to Mr. Sloan.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

Re: Sights in Hungary to anon
Start at the Danube in Budapest. The views of the maginificent Parliament are best from the Matyas TEmplom (Mathias Church), which itself is worth seeing.
Make sure to recharge in one of the many baths after a day of walking
ON a clear night nothing beats a dinner on the Danube looking out at the fully lit chain bridges.
Susan, glad this open forum is being a regular feature.
Your main Chess Shop doesn’t carry T-Shirts, is there somewhere else?
Nice work on the new Chess set

Thanks to the promo at this blog, I knew to attend the ‘Chess USA’ tournament held at Jones Beach. This was a really enjoyable day; met some good people, played some fun games. Turnout was small, but this left more prizes available for the rest of us! (In fact, everone got something!)
I want to thank Pete, Mike, and the folks at ‘Your Move Chess and Games’ for running this event. I visited their great store afterwards (and saw the autographed Polgar photo prominently displayed). The only downside for me is that I’ve got sunburn on my arms and legs which is somewhat painful. This is a small price to pay.
When they run their tournament next summer, I hope to see more of you folks come to play. This is a fun activity at a great location!

No one seems to know much about the candidate’s matches.
Sorry!

Hi susan!
I am curious, have you ever played the French Defence on the Black side against another Top GM? How would you rate this defense to let’s say the Sicilian?
Thanks,
Will you be on the chess moves 3 cruise?
Billy Jones
Sus,
You are looking very sexy behind than new chess set 🙂
Who is the great celebrity you’ve ever met and name one you would like to meet?
Can you name a few of youre favorite games in competition so us chess fans can maybe look some up on say Chessgames.com or other such sites. Also any news on sisters Judith and Sophie.
I’m tired. I thought that the correct 1. Nd3+ would lose because Black’s king would get to White’s pawns. I looked at the other guy’s posts and I guess, well, I was wrong! Anyways, what Black opening do you recommend to a guy that doesn’t like to memorize opening variations? What about for White (one for 1. e4 and one or 2 for everything else)? I’m having a lot of trouble memorizing this stuff, so please help me out! I’ll need it to win Nevada Scholastic State next year.
Lion King, yes. I play both. I like to have a variety and both are fine.
Billy Jones, I hope so but I do not know yet. I will let you know as soon as I know.
I met too many celebrities from all different fields. I love meeting new people and not necessarily celebs. It could be ordinary nice chess loving people.
David, what level are you?
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

I’m intermediate. My USCF rating 1s 1394, my quick, to my knowledge is 1256, and my Yahoo! rating is about 1556. I took 4th in state on a 4-way tiebraker for 2nd with 4 out of 5. I usually play the Sicillian, and most of my recent tournament losses were with Black.
Actually, I think that all of them were.
By the way, have you guys checked out answersingenesis.org and thetruthaboutDaVinci.org? They blow out evolution and the ‘DaVinci Code’ theory like there’s no tomorrow. Just about all of the questions that a skeptic could ask are there.
Does learning blindfold take practice or is it something you just can do by playing for a while?
What about this motion at the 2006 USCF delegates meeting??
“Given the recent life-threatening health issues afflicting Beatriz Marinello; and given her contributions to USCF and the US Chess Community as a former USCF Employee, past USCF President, current Executive Board Member and prominent player; it is hereby directed that up to $10,000.00 be authorized for distribution from the Professional Players Health & Benefit Fund to be applied towards the medical expenses of Ms. Marinello. Details of the method of confirmation of expenses for payment shall be left to the Executive Director. PASSED

Does anyone know who that nice old lady in the photo is?
ha ha ha — not!
