It’s Saturday Open Forum. There is excellent news out of the NE Masters. Young Parker Zhao just earned an IM norm with a round to spare. I have known Parker for a long time. I also know his coach GM Stripunsky very well. They both play various events at the Polgar Chess Center in NY.
India dominated the World Junior and World Girl’s Championship in Turkey. IM Dronavalli won the girl’s event by 1.5 points. In the boy’s section, GM Gupta and Negi finished 1st and 2nd. Impressive performance by the Indian delegation.
Aronian ended the Sochi Grand Prix in style by beating Grischuk to finish clear first. Radjabov got clear second. Kamsky also had promising results.
The Tal Memorial and the NH Tournament are about to begin. It will be a busy time for chess.
I just played a 4-board blindfold simul against a 1900, 1720, 1700, and 1450. Even not having played actively (other than blitz online), I was able to score 4-0. I also tried another unusual handicap. I played against the same 4 players with just 2.5 minutes total. They each have 5 minutes. So let’s say if I used 1 minute in the first game, I have to play the next 3 players in just 1.5 remaining minute. I also won 4-0. I think this kind of handicap chess is cool and fun for the spectators. Do you have other fun and exciting handicap chess?

It’s inexcusable that you’re not invited by the USCF to represent the US in the World Mind Games Sports in Beijing.
“It’s inexcusable that you’re not invited by the USCF to represent the US in the World Mind Games Sports in Beijing.”
No, it is unimportant. There many other things much more important going on — inside chess and outside of it.
Do you play any sports?
Hey Susan,
What do you think about Bill Goichberg and his CCA tournaments? Are they helping chess in the US?
Also what do you think of the recent delegates meeting in Dallas? Bill Hall’s speech and him wanting Paul Truong to resign?
Thanks Susan for answering my questions, btw you have a great blog!
I think a handicap to ches is the USCF EB.
If you can play chess in the USA, you can play it anywhere!
CCA events are great for CCA. I am not for or against it. Power to Mr. Goichberg for being able to make good money as an organizer. I do not think it has any positive effect for US chess.
I think Bill Hall’s acting skill needs more fine tuning. While he was speaking his lines, disgusting and derogatory posts were made against me on line.
At this point, the legal system will determine who was in the right and who was in the wrong. I am willing to drop the lawsuit against the USCF immediately if a full public apology is made to me and my family.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
I like your handicap games. Very interesting. Do you have other suggestions? How about 10 minutes to 1? 🙂
I think Hall and the USCF attorney did very poorly. From what I saw online, they didn’t come across as credible.

Your attorney should then make a specific offer to all of the defendants named in your action before any of the defendants you served in Dallas answer, assert counterclaims and bring your husband into the action as a third party defendant. Has your attorney made an offer to all of the named defendants?
Susan –
What about this World Championship in Nalchik? If you were scheduled to be there, would you drop out?
If not, would you drop out if you were Georgian?
Susan- I am sorry if there was any misunderstanding- I will accept whatever the rules are I just want to know them so that no such problem happens again.

There is nothing scarier than an apologetic nut-job.
Get help pal. Ritalin works. Get some. Get lots!
The CCA has been tremendously important for the development and popularity of chess playing in this country for over 40 years. This was especially pronounced in the early 1970s when Bill & Co brought the excitement and inspiration of big events on a regular basis not just to the NY area where I was, but on the road to many parts of the US. Although it is said that the wave of strong 1970s juniors was fed by Fischer mania, actually most of us were playing in CCA events before 1972.
He also brought a regular standard of large-scale organization and professionalism. Although one can cite incidents the way blunders are featured in reports of games by top-level humans, the statistical software I’ve been writing since May finds that over all moves Anand & Co are more reliable than the bell-curve models used to define “Six-Sigma” reliability, and I expect the same would be found of Bill & Co.
From long car rides in 1972 and other times, I distinctly remember the young Bill Goichberg inveighing against “chess politicians” … “not doing enough to promote the game to players” … “and especially to schoolchildren”. My software would find a definite match to what’s said on this blog!
This is old but what happened to the SPNI friends and parents rated blitz tourney. It hasn’t been rated nor are there any crosstables? Correct me if I am wrong.
“Correct me if I am wrong.”
OK, you are wrong! 🙂
Just for the record I was surprised in a good way and there was nothing sinister about it- it must have all been a misunderstanding.
I am a fan and a supporter and this is a great blog site. I am not a nut-job just was pleasantly surprised.
“OK, you are wrong! :)”
Where can I find results then.
