GM V. Kramnik
Dear Vladimir,
I am currently in Sochi, at meeting of meeting of the Heads of the Regions of the South Russian Region of the Russian Federation led by the President of Russia V. Putin.
I have carefully read your open letter of today addressed to me, and I hereby inform you of my full trust in the members of the Match Appeals Committee and their latest decision taken in respect of the appeal of Topalov’s team dated 28 September 2006.
I am also asking you in good faith to continue your participation in this match for the sake of the principles of our sport and prevention of the destruction of our long-sought efforts to organize this World Championship match, which is of utter importance for the whole world.
Millions of chess fans in the whole world are following this match with great interest and are looking forward for the just outcome produced over the chessboard and not from exchanging open letters which we are receiving from both teams. The Republic of Kalmykia and me personally as well as the Russian Chess Federation with its President, Mr. A. Zhukov have done our best in order to secure excellent conditions for the both participants. Therefore, I am kindly asking you to respect all these steps taken towards the smooth organization of the event.
Yours sincerely,
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov
President
FIDE President defends FIDE Appeals Board. What a surprise!
In any case, I hope Ilyumzhinov at least tries to negotiate here.
“The Republic of Kalmykia and me personally as well as the Russian Chess Federation with its President, Mr. A. Zhukov have done our best in order to secure excellent conditions for the both participants”
That’s his best? He is a joke
He should step down
Like I said in a comment to the previous post – FIDE would not admit they proceeded incorrectly (IF they did – I listed 3 questions that would help responding that).
So, it is quite clear – either Kramnik resumes 3-2 with the regulation changes (or more detailed terms) or Topalov will be deemed the “unified” Champion.
Mr. Ilyumzhinov you make me soooo sad.
Yes Topolov will be declared the champion since there is no way that Kramnik can proceed under these changed conditions, especially with the free point given to Topolov.
He has however now strongly solidified his claim(and Kasparov’s previous) as the Classical Chess Champion with his
3-1 victory on the chessboard.
While Danilov has turned Topolov into a (t)paper champion.
I just don’t understand why everyone now seems on Kramnik’s side.
After all, Topalov has the right to protest, even if it is thought by someone unreasonable.
The Appeals Committee’s dicision is final as stated in the both agreed term.
It is Kramnik and only Kramnik, who forfeited game 5, that made the mistake, in my opinion.
“So, it is quite clear – either Kramnik resumes 3-2 with the regulation changes (or more detailed terms) or Topalov will be deemed the ‘unified’ Champion.”
Not worth very much then. If Topalov ‘wins’ this way, he is the real looser: he has not proven himself the better player and he can hardly be recognized a fair sportsman anymore after his grave foul play. But that’s probably better than nothing: regular chances are very low that he still beats Kramnik in this match with two points behind.
Translation in real words:
“Kramnik you Dumbas: you’re pawned!
It was decided long ago that you’ll lose, and you will lose, by all the means at our disposal!
Our Champion is out of form, so we are forced to do so!
Then shut up, and see the rest of the event!”
Another evidence of the insane side of the Fide officers: corrupted and meprisable organisation!
That Kramnik cancel this ridiculous event, he will be the sole thrue world champion!
In other words – “if Topalov requests that you have a set number of times you can use the toilet, and that he can determine which toilet that is, and that he can insist you are accompanied there by another person – you must play on because otherwise it’s bad PR. Thanks, Kirsan.”
Nothing substantive. FIDE are getting ready to blame Kramnik for the collapse of this match. Their paper champion puppet is smiling. Chess, I hate you.
& this is no more than a prelude to a forfeit.
Everyone now seems on Kramnik side for good reason. He didn’t sign on for this embarasssment.
I myself was strongly on Topolov’s side before this match started. I rooted strongly against Kramnik when he played Leko.
Now I will witness the press and comedians ridicule Kramnik through no fault of his own. He’s been attacked professionally and personally.
Go out of it, Vladimir, it stinks. You deserve much better that this.
‘The Appeals Committee’s dicision is final as stated in the both agreed term.’
This is false since the contract clearly states that TOpalov has no right to complain about the before agreed conditions (Bathroom relaxing room playing room etc!).
Get your facts right!
The only thing left is for Kramnik to sue FIDE and for the chess public to firmly side with him.
First of all, sorry for my poor english. 🙂
The most sad thing is that the main looser in all this affair is chess.
I think the match will end here, and Topalov will be declared the champion of the reunification match, but all we now that this will be only from an official point of view. The truth is that reunification match it’s been a complete disaster, and the result for me it will not have practical value.
And it’s a shame, because the match was very interesting: 12 classic games between two top ten players, one with attacking style and the other with a defensive style… two different ways of see the chess game, face to face. After 13 years of chess split, finally a world championship match had attracted my attention.
I repeat: what a shame!! 🙁
Let’s assume Kramnik does not cheat neither prepeared to cheat somehow.
What can you conclude from behaviour of a chess player going up to 50 times to the toilet during every single game?
As occassional tournament player (FM) all I can say it can be very irritating for your opponent, and could disturb his concentration significantly!
If Kramnik did that for that purpose.. well that’s not forbidden but is not in a line of a fair-play either.
I think that could be the case, not anything like cheating.
I don’t think the toilets (or the toilets video) are in the sight of Topalov.
He had to check the video during the rest day to see this, so it’s pretty hard to say that Kramnik lack’s fairplay.
I don’t think Veselin would have searched the videos if the score was on his favor, and i don’t think he behaves like a champion.
He should win this match on the board, but maybe he can’t ?
Anyway, we need a miracle now. No more Topalov, it’s Kramnik against FIDE. Our only chance now is that FIDE (and maybe Topy even more) would lose a lot of its credibility (?!) by declaring Topalov as the winner.
For the utmost, it’s said that “a number of very severe checks are in place to insure that the rest rooms are tamper proof, and that in fact electronic noise is being generated to prevent any form of electronic communication within and in the vacinity of the playing venue”.(cf chessbase)
All that is well known by all the participants, and their managers too.
The problem here is that Kramnik is suspected of cheating using a small chess set (made from wood or plastic and thus indetectable). Moving the pieces on a board give a minimum 300 ELO advantage. No one searches for such a thing so Kramnik’s behaviour is extreamly suspicious to say the least.
The problem there is a hoaxmaker in the apple!
Need urgently a vermifuge there !
Dcax please do not corrupt this blog by posting the biased views of someone who works for Kramnik, this is only for chess loving fans of chess

Could you point out where it says this? I didn’t notice that part of the contract.
Topalov didn’t do anything (technically) wrong. If anyone is to blame, it is FIDE: the Appeals Committe took his appeal and granted it, as stated in the guidelines in Susan’s previous post. Hence, Kramnik has effectively just subtracted a point from his score.
He is throwing a tizzy fit because he wants his own bathroom. Why would any player be so obsessed with having a private bathroom, a bathroom that the other player can’t use?
It is just strange.
I agree that Topalov is being a poor sport (sort of like someone who starts your clock when he knows you are taking a quick bathroom break), but he is acting within the rules. Only Kramnik has broken any rules, and he is paying.
I was wrong. Here is the relevant part of the contract:
Clause 3.18.3., Schedule 2 of the contract:
“After the World Chess Championship Committee agrees with the Organizers on the arrangements in respect of the tournament hall, facilities etc. etc. etc……., no objections from the participants shall be acceptable as long as the conditions are in accordance with the rights of the players granted in their agreements.”
It seems the Appeals committe really did screw up. Big time.
Still, I don’t blame Topalov. It was up to the Appeals Committee to know the rules and do what was right.
I am starting to think Kramnik is not such a freak. I was wrong to judge him so harshly.
The fide Appeal Commitee went wrong because of his members which are friends with danailov and that are acquaintance with topalov’s interests.
All that can be found in the match organisation between radjabov and topalov next year.
Nore Kramnik nore Topalov are in fault! (except certains parts of interviews).
All remains on danailov a crazy rat and fide appeal committy!
The WCC doesn’t need that!
That Kramnik spent eighty two minutes in front of a bathroom door without entering and without having to go to another restroom proves that his “need” to go 50 times per game to the bathroom is false. Furthermore, he is suspected of using a small chess set to make moves physically while in the bathroom (the only place sans cameras) which gives the palyer a minimum of 300 Elo points of advantage. This is serious since neither player is searched for non-electronic devices. It also sheds a dark light on the Kasparov vs Kramnik match, since Kasparov complained (just like Topalov) that Kramnik made too many trips to the bathroom!
