In spite of coming out on top in the 3rd tiebreak in Kazan, Webster U GM Wesley So had to beat former World Junior Champion GM Zaven Adriasian in the Armageddon playoff to win the World University Championship title. He did it! Here is the game:

Here is the explanation I got from Ed Andaya from the Filipino delegation:
Based on official record signed by tournament director Aleksandr Tkachiev, Wesley and Zaven finished tied after three tiebreaks – — BH 1 (47.5), BH 2 (43.0) and SB (35.50). A fourth one, the direct encounter or winner-over-the-other rule, will also provide no clear winner since the two drew their ninth-round match.
Since chess is a new sport here in Universiade (introduced only by China in 2011 Shenzhen), there is really no clear-cut rule on playoffs. Initially, officials wanted to give 2 golds — 1 for Wesley and 1 for Zaven. But FISU ruled it out since the Universiade gives only one gold. So the officials decided on the Armageddon and called the two players. Zaven won the toss coin and chose white. The rest, of course, is history. As Susan P. correctly pointed out, the Armageddon victory only made it a lot sweeter for Wesley.

A wake up call for philippine government. aside from being a filipino.. the philippine governmenr deserve no piece of this gold.. For sure they will join the pinoy pride bandwagon.. i give credit to Ms Susan Polgar without her i guess wesley’s potential for sure is going nowhere here in the philippines
Congratulations to GM Wesley So for another accomplished feat which brought honor to our country and people. Sharing also the honor to Madam Susan Polgar with her tireless effort unselfishly extending a helping hand. Let the Philippine government alone! They not worth even mentioning anywhere. The people is better off without them.
Your program GM Susan Polgar help Wesley So to become World University Student World Chess Champion 2013. The Philippines is so proud of Wesley.
Wesley playing black and winning for the tie break, just proves he is indeed a better player and a champion. Many thanks to Susan Polgar, may God bless you and your programs.
May I leave a challenge to Susan and Wesley, how do you (Wes) become top ten in the world.
Good luck on the 2013 FIDE Open.
