note: if 3. Kxg4 (instead of Kg3), white loses a tempo: 3. Kxg4 gxf5+ (the point) 4. Kf4 (to prevent a check on b1(Q)) 4. … b5 5. h5 b4 now both black and white queen at the same time. if the white king was on e5 (instead of f4), then white would have Qc8+ and Qb8+ winning the black queen. However, that is not the case.

these types of puzzles always start g4. Would play it in less than a second in blitz and hope it works.

1. g4 Kc5
2. f5 hxg4
3. Kg3! gxf5 (forced)
4. h5 b5
5. h6 b4
6. h7 b3
7. h8(Q)
wins
note: if 3. Kxg4 (instead of Kg3), white loses a tempo:
3. Kxg4 gxf5+ (the point)
4. Kf4 (to prevent a check on b1(Q))
4. … b5
5. h5 b4
now both black and white queen at the same time. if the white king was on e5 (instead of f4), then white would have Qc8+ and Qb8+ winning the black queen. However, that is not the case.
Black has another alternative defense, but it too doesn’t work:
1. g4 hxg4
2. Kg3 Kc5
3. f5 Kd5
4. fxg6 Ke6
so black is “in the square” to defend against the g6 pawn. however:
5. Kxg4 b5
6. Kf4 b4
7. Ke4
now white is “in the square” — and stops the b-pawn.
following this, if black king attacks the g6 pawn, white simply defends it with h5.
then, white captures the b-pawn with the king, and returns the king to the king-side and supports the pawns to queen.
Nice puzzle.

1…Kc4!! black wins
1.g4 hxg4
2.Kg3!! and white queens one of his pawns.
if 2.Kxg4 then white would have to make another move with his King and that would be a draw.
g4 hxg4
Kg3 Kc5
f5
I’m thinkin the f pawn needs to move
1. g4 hxg4 2. Kg3 wins (2.- Kc5 3. f5 gxf5, 4. h5 wins)
1.g4 hxg4 2.Kxg4 Kc4 3.f5 gxf5 4.Kxf5 b5 5.h5 b4 6.Ke3!
I think… =]
1.g4 hxg4 2.Kxg4 Kc4 3.f5 gxf5 4.Kxf5 b5 5.h5 b4 6.Ke3!
I think… =]
shut the f up. i already saw that. i deleted that and reposted another solution.
1. g4 !
2. f4 !
and a white pawn will queen !
