Milan tactic review Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should white proceed? Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1. Nxe6 is crushing
1… fxe6
2. Bxe6+ Kh8
If (2… Kf8 3. Bxf6 gxf6 4. Qxh7 and mate follows)
3. Ng5
(With threat of BxN and mate on h7 and also Nf7+ White is winning easily)
1-0
Nxe6
Looked first at 1. Ng5 threating Bxf6, but Be5 seems a good defence.
What about:
1. Nxe6 fxe6 (?)
2. Bxe6+ Kh8
Now Ng5 looks better:
3. Ng5! Rf8 (Be5 Nf7+ is deadly)
4. Bxf6 and Qxh7#
2. … Kh6
3. Bxf6 gxf6
4. Qxh7 (king undressed) Qc7 (only against Qf7#)
5. Qg8+ Ke7
6. Qf7#
So, black must refrain from 1. … fxe6.
1. Nxe6 Rd7 (defending f7 looks best)
2. Neg5!?
This is a bit uncler to me.
So the question is:
If black answers Nxe6 with moving his rook instead of accepting the sack, how for white to continue?
To try and answer my own question.
1. Nxe6 Rd7 (Re8? Neg5 threats “everything”)
2. Qf5!
looks good. Prevents 2. … Be5, and threats a lot.
