As the Kansas City Chess Club celebrated 20 years of serving the local chess community, they also celebrated its recent move to the corner of Water and Kansas Streets on the historic, downtown Liberty Square, at 2 S. Water Street. They now has a visible location big enough to host chess schools for children kindergarten through 12th grade and chess tournaments for both children and adults.
The Chess Club began as a single club and has expanded throughout the metropolitan area, from Blue Springs to Bonner Springs and from Liberty to Lenexa. Mr. Fee and his staff lead public and private school chess clubs, as well as chess schools at local libraries, community centers and grocery stores.
Chess schools focus on individual instruction, while teaching children life skills through chess. Students learn rules, etiquette, strategy and tactics. The Chess Club teaches three chess schools in Liberty, one in Blue Springs, one in Bonner Springs, two home-school chess programs, and several in Jackson County at-risk youth centers. Individual chess lessons are also offered.
