J.J. Foster wins national chess tourney

James “J.J.” Foster, son of Sean and Shelli-Kae Foster of Alexandria, took first place in the 2012 Susan Polgar National Open Chess Tournament in New Orleans June 1-3.
The field of 120 players represented states from as far as California and Texas. Foster had to beat out a 5th grade student ranked 20th in the nation to achieve the title of K-5 division champion.
Foster also won first place for the K-5 Blitz tournament. He just completed 5th grade at Voyager Elementary School in Alexandria.
