NEW DELHI: Grandmaster Deepan Chakkravarthy tied for the third spot in the Paris International chess tournament after drawing the ninth and final round with Spain’s Daniel Alsina in Paris on Sunday. Deepan eventually took the fourth spot with 6.5 points.
The second-seeded Kazakh Murtas Kazhgaleyev pipped top-seeded Ukrainian Sergey Fedorchuk on tiebreak to take the title after the two drew their last round game and tallied seven points.

In the third Leiden chess tournament at Leiden (Holland), Shyam Sundar defeated Dutchman Herman van Halderen to be among the four leaders with three points after as many rounds.
B. Adhiban, P. Karthikeyan, M.R. Lalith Babu and V.A.V. Rajesh were on 2.5 points. Twelve Indian juniors are taking part in this nine-round competition.
Tania loses
In the Donostia Chess Festival in San Sebastian (Spain), top seed Tania Sachdev (2.5 points) battled for 90 moves against the second-seeded Sophie Millet of France and surrendered the fifth round to suffer her second defeat in the competition.
Sophie and Russia’s Yana Melnikova shared the lead at four points in the 10-player women’s event.
