HYDERABAD: Koneru Humpy won the HSG Open international chess tournament in Hilversum (the Netherlands) with 7.5 points from nine rounds, according to information received here on Thursday.
Incidentally, this is the first ever international title-triumph for the ONGC officer in the men’s circuit.
In the final round, Humpy (Elo 2575) outwitted GM Erik Van Den Doel of the Netherlands (Elo 2580). By virtue of this victory, the Vijayawada girl will pick up 15 FIDE points.
Earlier, Humpy moved closer to the title by drawing the eighth and penultimate round against Greek GM Stelios Halkias to maintain her half point lead on Wednesday.
Congratulations to Humpy!

It’s nice that you constantly promote Humpy and other players.
Does that 15 points put her ahead od Susan as the second highest rated woman in chess?
yes indeed, Humpy will now go ahead of Susan Polgar….
And those are not 15 points, those would be 15.5 ELO which when rounded off will become 16 ELO…
Will Humpy earn a GM norm here!? Or is she already GM ??
Or still WGM?
“Will Humpy earn a GM norm here!? Or is she already GM ??

She is the youngest ever to be a GM beating Judit Polgar at it. Humpy became a GM at 15 years, that was 5 years ago….
Humpy never was the youngest GM. She is however the youngest female to become a GM. There are now 11 people to have become a GM before the age of 15 as documented here:
