“Very cool.” I can’t agree. I do not know what this should be… Is it advertise for anything? Maybe for a computer game teaching chess? … but what is this scene when they give a short introduction on some basic chess rules? Can’t they say the names of the figures even faster? Or can’t they tell more about the center as the second sentence? As a beginner I would feel totally underchallenged here.
Spoken without irony, I would say as a beginner this rule-saying-part would really frighten me off. And the rest of the ‘movie’ isn’t done very well, too. Do they move while cycling?? But perhaps children can take pleasure with the movie but if they are really going to get interested in chess by it?
Susan, if you have anything to do with this for trying to engage children playing chess please rework at least the part about the rules… Terrible. 🙁
Best wishes and good look with the promotion of chess to the children Jochen
I think you overreacted a bit. It is not a self-sufficient chess video, it is a trailer for a children’s chess book for which Susan wrote a foreword. (It is available from Susan’s store http://polgarchess.com/products/1230.php)
The book itself (152 color pages) is very deliberate and takes its time to carefully introduce all chess concepts.
Ano, thanks for your post. You say it is for children. Of course but _especially as it is for children_ I think it is important that it is good and understandable for beginners… Maybe I oberreact but in my eyes the work with children and especially getting children doing anything like chess or other sports, take part in youth groups, make music, (…) is very important (especially as many children/youths live in reality TV/PC worlds these days…). I really appreciate Susan’s work for children’s chess so why not try to help her with my opinion?
I said that as a beginner I would be frightened off as there is much too much (and unnecassary) information given too quick in a short time and I still mean it. As child I perhaps had appreciated the rest of the video (which I dislike today, too, okay, I pointed this out in the last post but saying that this might be attractive for children) but not the chess rule part – so how should it drag me over to a chess board?
My critics had nothing to do with the book which I do not know (but thanks for the information, ano). (But as I pointed out above this film reminded me of advertise of a video game more than a book…)
If this sounded like trolling, I apologize, I just wanted to help. But I am sure that it was less trolling than Joshen’s post was. 😉

I’m a stupid troll.

So I stay alone with my opinion, who cares. 😉

I actually enjoyed the promo clip for the book. Very creative and professionally done.
