Classy game. Opening theory didn’t matter here. It is enough to be White. The middle game was played in World Champion style.
Thanks a lot
Great game!
Ok let’s not get hysterical. it’s nice but it isn’t that spectacular.
Rxf7 followed by Qxh7 is pretty standard. A bit like the Greek gift, or the double bishop sacrifice on g7 & h7.
I’ve already seen a much better candidate this year. Check out Khismatullin vs Eljanov from European Individual May 2015 :
1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e3 O-O 5. Ne2 Re8 6. a3 Bf8 7. Ng3 d5 8. Be2 a6 9. O-O c5 10. dc5 Bc5 11. cd5 ed5 12. Bf3 Be6 13. b4 Bd6 14. Bb2 Be5 15. Na4 Bb2 16. Nb2 Nc6 17. Nd3 Qb6 18. Giving your opponent your rook & a check, with 44 Kg1 – that’s really classy.
Sorry dude, not even close. There’s a lot less pieces on the board when he made that sacrifice. Wei Yi’s game has a lot of quiet moves to consider.
I am afan of we yei.
Can black defend with 31. … Rg7, rather than Bxg2+?
Than come 32. h3+ Kh5 33. Qe2#
