Bulgaria’s Topalov Rumoured Brain Chip Brings Uproar
The question “Is there a chip, installed in the brain of Vesselin?”, is all over the press in Russia. There Veselin Topalov, 31, a Bulgarian grandmaster who is the top-ranked player in the world, started a 12-game match against Vladimir Kramnik, 31, a Russian grandmaster, who is ranked No. 4.
The manager of the Bulgarian grandmaster went as far as to propose the opponents a brain surgery.
“Find the best neurosurgeon in Russia to operate Vesselin’s brain! The chip was installed in Houston and we paid US $2,000,000,” angry Silvio Danailov said in an interview for NTV Plus Sport, as cited by Darik News.
The two players inspire reminiscences of Kasparov and Karpov, who first started the schism in the chess world back in 1993.

Controversy brewing in Elista?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
What controversy?
This must be a joke 🙂 a chip in the brain, come on hehe may with Fritz multi-processor 🙂
With or without chip I vote for Mr. Kramnik
This is reminiscent of some tabloids…
NExt thing you know, there will be secret messages in the yogurt…
Oh, wait. 🙂
LOL!
I don’t know about messages in the yogurt, but there is a parallel to Korchnoi/Karpov in that the Topalov team apparently has a psychic according to what Danailov told the press.
After chips in the brain, what comes next? Poisoned orange juice?
If I were Topalov I would hire a new manager. No way would I let my manager offer my opponents their choice of neurosurgeon to operate on my brain: the neurosurgeon should be chosen from a neutral third party.
Let me tell you a little secret: Topalov is no human being – he, or it, comes from another planet. Just look at his games. No normal human being of flesh and blood can produce such fantastic chess. He deliberately lost his first two games to let people think he can be beaten. But today Topalov strikes back! Mark my words!
Given the way he won his games I would say that he has NO brainchip implanted. Clearly journalism hasn’t changed.
If Topalov has an implanted chip, I hope it has a return policy, because it’s not working, guys.
I agree with djah805. If its a chip it must be a defective one.
Maybe he had the chip placed in 1995 when Fritz was in version 5.0 (and they can’t get it out) 🙂

This is nonsense. I read 3-4 Russian newspapers, and follow all the important chess websites. There is no talk about Topalov’s brain chips. Also, all polls conducted in chess forums show that most chess fans do not believe that Topalov cheats in any way. Maybe yellow rags print this nonsense, but it’s definitely not all over the Russian press.
One thing is true – the few who do suspect Topalov are definitely very loud about it, but they are in a very small minority.
the real controversy brewing in Elista is the proposed (?) changes to the world championship qualifying cycle in progress. Gelfand is absolutely right. Do you know any other sport where the rules are changed in the middle of the contest
These things are not so unlikely to happen in the chess world as many people would guess.
Once Bogoljubow claimed that Alekhine had hypnotized him to draw a game in which he was clearly won.
It is known that the Red Army of the Soviet Union was the first to arrive in Berlin, thus ending WWII. And is said that they stole all the Nazi’s surveys regarding paranormality. Besides, it is well known why the KGB had always been some steps ahead the CIA during the Cold War and might still be, specially in this issue.
I’ve once watched a program in which the journalists gave their straight opinions about anything. Once this was commented and a journalist said that there were rumours that the russian chess player Garry Kasparov had learned some techniques of telepathy, through which he could intercept his opponents thoughts and know what he was thinking about. Whether it true or not, of course I have no idea. But I think these things aren’t just coincidence. Someone who just thinks logically would suppose that these things are not impossible to happen and wouldn’t surely discard these possibilities based on nonsense skepticism. Fischer also was one who said things about it. Whether it’s true or not, how would we know? But he always said that “the russians cheat”, as Seirawan once pointed out in an interview. Though looking at Fischer’s life and opinions he seems to be an eccentric person, studying his life and cases more deeply, he doesn’t seem to be saying only bullshit at all.
The chess world is deep and has many things…
We need to x-ray every player in future world championship matches to see if there are chips in their heads.
Danailov needs to act calmer, he’s becoming a liability to Topalov’s image, he’s overly agressive. It would be better to laugh off such claims, if indeed such claims were made seriously. Part of maintaining dignity is not losing it every time some idiot says something provocative.

The question “Is there a chip, installed in the brain of Vesselin?”, is all over the press in Russia.
…
What a nonsense, Susan!
There were a couple articles on this topic a while ago and most people do not beleive Topalov uses
a help from computer.
So how do you dare to say “it’s all over the press in Russia.”???
If he does have a brain chip, it must be a dorito. Seriously, its a piece of crap if it didnt spot 32. Rxg4+
