Chess teams leaves for Lebanon

KATHMANDU, April 15: A six member Nepali chess squad headed towards Lebanon Tuesday to participate in the Asian Cities Team Chess Championship that begins on Thursday.
FIDE Master Manish Hamal, winner of the 15th National Chess Tournament Surbir Lama, runners-up Balaram Napit and the second runners-up Sujendra Prasad Shrestha would represent Nepal. Kailesh Shrestha and Bishwobijay Ratna Bajracharya are the officials.
According to the media coordinator of Nepal Chess Association Hirakaji Maharjan, players from about 35 countries would participate in the event. The top three teams of the week-long event will bag purse of US$3,000, US$2,000 and US$1,000 respectively.
