Press Release Chess Connects Us 2017
The 3rd edition of the annual Global Chess Festival (GCF) will be held on Saturday October 14th, 2017. This year the festival in Budapest will take place in the beautiful new location Graphisoft Park, the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Hungary. As in previous years, various activities will be organized, all with chess as the main theme.
“Our team is very passionate about chess and we will celebrate the diversity of the game as sport, art and education”, says Judit Polgar, who is responsible for the organization of the Global Chess Festival. “The power of chess connects people.”
The Judit Polgar Chess Foundation has the ambition to continue the GCF yearly in the future, to be scheduled on every second Saturday in October. The organization invites all visitors of the festival to have an unforgettable day and inspires the whole world to play chess on 14th October. “Chess has an exceptional power to bring people together. We call for chess enthusiasts around the world to be part of the GCF and wish to encourage organizers from all over the world. Moreover we wish to inspire chess players, teachers and artists worldwide to organize chess related events and share it on the GCF website.”
On 14th October Budapest will be the host of an amazing family day, free admission for everybody, with a variety of programs: the Chess Palace Cup for kids, Generational Clash, LIVE Chess Theme Artwork, the Chess Palace built from marzipan in 3D by one of the most prestigious Hungarian confectionery SZAMOS. Kids will have a big variety of games to play and may create their own “sweet” chess pieces.
A unique musical performance will be given by the French composer Jason Kouchak, combining Chess & Music. The simultaneous exhibition by the Polgar Sisters Judit and Sofia will traditionally be part of the GCF. All day programs will provide families an opportunity to learn their first chess moves and to experience the power of Educational Chess.
We look forward to 14th October, the day when chess is celebrated all over the world. Countries that have joined the celebration of chess are: Australia, New Zeeland, Azerbaijan, Spain, Chile, Serbia, USA, Holland, Romania and many more. Both the amount and the quality of events is growing from year to year. Check out the list of events and make sure to include your own to sign up here.
