The 2016 Peruvian Men’s and Women’s Chess Championship took place from February 10-14, at the National Stadium of Peruvian capital Lima.
Both events were played in a 9-round Swiss FIDE tournament with time control 90′ + 30″.
Men’s championship finished with a four-way tie for the first place between Fernando Fernandez, GM Emilio Cordova, IM Deivy Vera Siguenas and GM Jorge Cori, after the whole group scored 7.5/9 points. However, the untitled player Fernandez had the best tie-break score and took the gold.
WFM Ingrid Y Aliaga Fernandez, WIM Mishe Caballero Quijano Mitzy and Melanie Dongo shared the first place among women with 7/9 points and qualified for the Continental Championship.
