Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
It seems we will have a new world champion as Kosteniuk is in a lost endinng.
With correct play, I believe Black can draw this.
Best wishes,
Susan
Kosteniuk found 63…Ke6, the only move to draw.
Best wishes,
Susan
Wow, I really had analyzed without computer assistant that white would infiltrate with her king after black captured the g pawn. I did not consider black playing Ne4 and Nd2. I guess I will have to look at it again.
Wow ..Alexandra got a draw after all.
Amazing, I thought she was lost earlier. She had a very good position erlaer I think
Tonorrow tiebreak again for her..
Draw it was!
And the fact is that WWC Kosteniuk is the only Russian player still present in the 3th round, undefeated and with 3 wins in 6 games, while none of the other 9 (!) Russian women survived the 2d round.
Will she win again the tiebreak tomorrow and go on fighting for her crown?
I guess so! 🙂
I am very happy @Chessqueen hung on for the draw. I was extremely concerned when I lost the connection at move 50. When I got it back the game was over, my heart relieved.
@ZZ0
Humpy and Anna drew in 14 moves ?!!
What was that ?!!
Can someone explain why they drew…they barely got out of the opening…
i don’t understand this at all….Anna had to win this to draw level
@lightbrew
From what I understand about Humpy vs. Zatonskih, white has a clear upper hand in the final position. Black’s plan of kingside pawn thrust with h6-g5 achieved nothing and seems problematic, as white then opened up the center with e4. Subsequently, white controls the center and the e-file, and black would simply have to fight for a draw from this point on.
Perhaps, Susan can weigh in on the game.
Congratulations for Zhu Chen who took the mistake of Hou Yifan in the mid-game. Good luck for tomorrow! A Chess Queen can never be underestimated even if everyone is an underdog in front of Hou Yifan.
No stress for me today. Koneru had an easy draw. Phew!
These aren’t light weight players at all.
I was wondering the same, what’s the point to draw at 14th when you lose the match and are out. Perhaps she was sick or something…
Anyway, go Katya now, you are my only fav left. What a dream story would be to hold 2 WC titles together
