Victoria, Seychelles set ready to host the 2015 African Junior Chess Championship from 27th December 2015 to 07th January 2016!
The 2015 African Junior Chess Championships got underway in the paradise island of Seychelles after a delay of just over two hours. The total number of participating federations is 13 with representation from all the four African FIDE Zones.
In the Open Section the field of 24 players is headed by the top seed IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt.
In the Girls Section, which comprises 13 players, the top seed is WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt.
The Arbitration team headed by the Chief Arbiter IA Stephen Kisuze of Uganda has IA Bernadette Mein of the host nation as the Deputy Chief Arbiter. The Section Arbiters are FA Tshepiso Lopang of Botswana and FA Gilton Mkumbwa of Malawi.
The Appeals Committee is headed by Dr. Hesham Elgendy of Egypt as Chairman with Kezzie Msukwa of Malawi and Ericho Nshikokola of Zambia as members.
The 13 participating federations are: Algeria, Angola,Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The President of the African Chess Confederation welcomed all participants to the final event of the 2015 African Continental tournament calendar and wished all participants a memorable stay in the beautiful island of the Seychelles.

2015 AJCC-ROUND 1
The first round of the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships got off to an interesting start with the top seeds in both the Open and Girls Sections recording hard fought victories against determined opponents. In the Open Section IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt had to dig deep to extract a win from the resilient Ezra Chambers of Burundi. The performance of Round 1 in the Open Section belonged to the hosting Federation’s Keith Vital who held the Moroccan Under 20 champion Mohamed Amin El Fazari to a draw. Other results in the Open Section went more or less according to expectation.
In the Girls’ Section the top seeded WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt withstood a fierce battle with Angola’s Delfina Joao to emerge victorious. With the hosts Snegha Pillay in bye, the rest of the results in the Girls Section there were no surprise results in all the other games.

Round 2 of the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships currently in play in the paradise island of the Seychelles continued to provide valuable entertainment with the top seeds dominating with few exceptions. All the games in the Open Section provided decisive results with no draws recorded. Top seeded Egyptian IM Adham Fawzy saw off the challenge of Angola’s CM Silvio Famorosa on Board 1, whilst the second seeded Madagascar player FM Fy Rakotomaharo easily disposed of South Africa’s Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout on Board 2. The longest game of the round saw Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fazari defeat Zambia’s Joshua Mulauzi on Board 7. Other notable results in Round 2 of the Open Section saw Algeria’s Ali Nassr defeat Zambia’s Elias Musonda on Board 3 whilst the defending Champion IM David Silva of Angola saw off the challenge of Aakash Chetty of the Seychelles. Daniel Anwuli of Nigeria recorded his first win of the tournament by defeating Zimbabwe’s Donald Mashiri. The all Seychellois clash between Harish Pillay and Timothy Kate saw the later emerge with the much needed win.
In Round 2 of the Girls’ Section the first surprise result of the tournament was witnessed when the second seeded Egyptian WIM Tasneem Ehab lost to Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos. Top seeded WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt continued to dominate with a win over the defending champion Angola’s WIM Esperanca Caxita. On Board 3 of the Girls’ Section South Africa’s Sune du Toit beat Seychelles’ Snegha Pillay. Kenya’s Joyce Nyaruai played well in getting a deserved draw against WFM Luzia Pires of Angola on Board 4.

The third round of the ongoing 2015 African Junior Chess Championships in the Seychelles witnessed a major result on the top board of the Open section when the top seed IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt was beaten by the defending champion IM David Silva of Angola. On Board 2 FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar continued with his steady progress by defeating Jemusse Zhemba of Zimbabwe. IM Ali Nassr of Algeria also maintained his push for the top prize when he beat FM Cristiano Aguiar of Angola on Board 3. CM Silvio Fomorosa of Angola continued to make his presence felt by defeating Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fazari. Daniel Anwuli of Nigeria had his second consecutive win in defeating Ezra Chambers of Burundi, whilst Zambia’s Elias Musonda recovered from his second round defeat to beat Moses Maina Wanjiru of Kenya. Three players are in joint leadership of the Open Section on 3 points. These are IM David Silva of Angola, FM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo of Madagascar and IM Ali Nassr of Algeria. They are followed by nine players on 2 points each.
In the Girls Section, top seeded WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt maintained her imperious start with a win over South Africa’s Sune du Toit on Board 1. The second seeded WIM Tasneem Ehab of Egypt recovered from her surprise Round 2 defeat to beat Elza Hoareau of Seychelles. Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos and WFM Luzia Pires played out a draw on Board 2 of Round 3 of the Girls’ Section. The defending champion in the Girls section WIM Esperanca Caxita also recovered from her round 2 defeat to beat Jesse Eulentin of hosts Seychelles. Delfina Joao of Angola and Kenya’s Joyce Nyaruai also recorded wins against Seychelles’ Snegar Pillay and Liza Adeline respectively. At the end of Round 3 WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt continues to lead the Girls’ Section standings with 3 points; followed by WIM Maria Domingos of Angola on 2.5 points. Delfina Joao, WFM Sune du Toit, WIM Esperance Caxita, WIM Tasneem Ehab and WFM Luzia Pires are in joint third position on 2 points.

Round 4 of the Seychelles hosted 2015 African Junior Chess Championships produced a memorable game on the top board of the Open Section where the second seeded FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar and the third seeded IM Ali Nassr of Algeria fought out a marathon draw. The defending champion IM David Silva of Angola took advantage of the top board deadlock by beating South Africa’s Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout on Board 2 to take sole leadership of the section. On Board 3 of the Open section the top seeded IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt recovered from his third round defeat by beating Zambia’s Elias Musonda. Fourth seeded Daniel Anwuli of Nigeria continued his steady rise by beating South Africa’s Allesandro Claudio Crismann. As we approach the mid-point of the championship the leader and defending champion IM David Silva of Angola on 4 points is followed by FM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo of Madagascar and IM Ali Nassr of Algeria in joint second place on 3.5 points. Top seeded IM Adhan Fawzy, FM Cristiano Aguiar, CM Silvio Famorosa and Daniel Anwuli are in joint third position on 3 points.

Second seeded WIM Tasneem Ehab also of Egypt continued on her recovery path by beating Angola’s WFM Luzia Pires on Board 2. On Board 3 South Africa’s WFM Sune du Toit recovered from her Round 3 defeat to record a win over Delfina Joao of Angola. The Girls Section defending champion, WIM Esperanca Caxita of Angola beat Kenya’s Joyce Nyaruai. WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt continues to lead the Girls’ Section standings with a perfect 4 points after Round 4. The leaders in both Sections of the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships currently taking place in the Seychelles capital of Victoria on Mahe Island maintained their grip of the leadership battles with varying results.
In the Open Section the defending champion IM David Silva of Angola extended his lead to a full point after a masterful performance in defeating IM Ali Nassr of Algeria on the top board. Second seeded FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar was held to a second successive draw when top seeded IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt continued his comeback fight on Board 2. Another marathon draw was witnessed on Board 3 where Nigeria’s Daniel Anwuli continued his impressive run with a hard fought result against FM Cristiano Aguiar of Angola. On Board 4 Angola’s CM Silvio Famorosa beat South Africa’s Allesandro Claudio Crismann to maintain his steady rise to joint second position in the Open Section leadership. South Africa’s Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout recovered from the previous round defeat by winning against Ali Abdullahi Farah of Somalia. The Zambian pair of Elias Musonda and Joshua Mulauzi also recovered to register wins against Somalia’s Mohamud Hussein Ali and Kenya’s Moses Wanjiru Maina respectively. The mid-point of the Open Section of 2015 African Junior Chess Championships keeps the defending champion IM David Silva of Angola firmly in the lead on 5 points. He is followed by FM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo of Madagascar and CM Silvio Famorosa of Angola in joint second place on 4 points. In joint third position on 3.5 points are the top seeded IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt, FM Cristiano Aguiar of Angola, IM Ali Nassr of Algeria and Daniel Anwuli of Nigeria.
In the Girls Section the top seeded WIM Shahenda Wafa and second seeded WIM Tasneem Ehab both of Egypt played out a draw on Board 1. This allowed the third seeded WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa to reduce the leadership gap to half a point when she defeated the defending champion WIM Esperanca Caxita of Angola. On Board 3 Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos defeated Jesse Eulentin of the Seychelles to remain in touch with the leaders. Board 4 of the Girls Section witnessed another draw between WFM Luzia Pires and Delfina Joao both of Angola. WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt maintained her lead the Girls’ Section standings on 4.5 at the mid-point of the championships. She is followed by WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa who is on 4 points. Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos and Egypt’s WIM Tasneem Ehab are in joint third position on 3.5 points.

Consolidation and dominance appeared to be the message from the leaders in both Sections of the ongoing 2015 African Junior Chess Championships in the Seychelles as both IM David Silva and WIM Shahenda Wafa had decisive wins on the top boards to further tighten their grips on the leadership of their respective Sections.
The defending champion, Silva of Angola now leads the Open Section by 1.5 points after a defeating the second seeded FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar. On Board 2 FM Cristiano Aguiar defeated his Angolan counterpart CM Silvio Famorosa to keep his chances of the title alive. The top seeded IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt beat Nigeria’s Daniel Anwuli on Board 3 to also maintain his challenge for the title with three rounds to play. South Africa’s Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout defeated Zambia’s Elias Musonda on Board 4 as the championship moves towards the home straight. There were also notable wins for IM Ali Nassir of Algeria who defeated Zambia’s Joshua Mulauzi, Zimbabwe’s Jemusse Zhema who defeated Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fezari and South Africa’s FM Allesandro Claudio Crismann who defeated Somalia’s Ali Abdullahi Farah.
With three rounds remaining, the leaderships of the Open Section of 2015 African Junior Chess Championships remains firmly under the control of the defending champion IM David Silva of Angola who is now on 6 points. He is followed by three players on 4.5 points; IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt, IM Ali Nassr of Algeria and FM Cristiano Aguiar of Angola. FM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo of Madagascar, CM Silvio Famorosa of Angola, Zimbabwe’s Jemusse Zhema and Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout are a further half point back on 4 points.
In the Girls Section WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt defeated WFM Luzia Pires of Angola on the top board to keep control of the leadership. Second seeded WIM Tasneem Ehab also of Egypt beat WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa on board 2 to remain a point behind her compatriot. On Board 3 Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos defeated her compatriot, the defending champion WIM Esperanca Caxita to also remain just a point off the pace setting WIM Wafa. Angola’s Delfina Joao won against Kenya’s Joyce Nyaruai on Board 4 to keep alive her chances of finishing in the medal bracket. WIM Shahenda Wafa moved to 5.5 points as she continues to lead the Girls’ Section standings. In joint second place on 4.5 points are WIM Maria Domingos and WIM Tasneem Ehab. WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa is a further half a point behind on 4 points. Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos and Egypt’s WIM Tasneem Ehab are in joint third position on 3.5 points.
Round 7 pairings: Open Section – Girls Section

At the ongoing 2015 African Junior Chess Championships in the Seychelles the relentless march to the titles of the best Under 20 Juniors for both IM David Silva of Angola and WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt was checked briefly in the Open Section when FM Cristian Aguiar became the first player to stop IM Silva walking away with a full point. In the meantime WIM Wafa’s march continues unabated in the Girl’s Section.
IM Silva still has an outstanding chance to retain the Continental Under 20 title though his lead has been cut to one point. On Board 2 the top seeded IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt moved into second place on the Open Section log with victory over IM Ali Nassr of Algeria. The second seeded FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar recorded a draw against CM Silvio Famorosa of Angola. There was another draw on Board 4 in the Open Section when Zimbabwe’s Jemusse Zhema was able to hold out to South Africa’s Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout. Nigeria’s Daniel Anwuli returned to winning ways with victory over Kenya’s Moses Maina on Board 5 to also maintain his challenge for the title with two rounds to play. The Zambian pair of Joshua Mulauzi and Elias Musonda also had welcome wins against South Africa’s FM Alessandro Claudio Crismann and Zimbabwe’s Donald Mashire on Boards 6 and 7 respectively. On Board 8 Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fezari was held to a marathon draw by Somalia’s Mohamud Hussein Ali. As the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships move into the penultimate round, the leadership of the Open Section still sees the defending champion IM David Silva of Angola atop on 6.5 points. He is followed by IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt who is on 5.5 points. FM Cristiano Aguiar of Angola is third on 5 points.
WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt overcame a spirited challenge from the local youngster Jesse Eulentin of the Seychelles to record another win on Board 1 of the Girls Section. On Board 2 Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos defeated WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa to remain in contention. WIM Tasneem Ehab of Egypt overcame Angola’s Delfina Joao in another marathon game on Board 3 to keep in touch with the leader. On Board 4 Elgine Crea of the Seychelles beat her compatriot Liza Adeline to maintain a satisfactory performance for the local youngsters. The Girl’s Section leader, WIM Shahenda Wafa has now moved to 6.5 points as she gets ready to claim her crown. In joint second place on 5.5 points are WIM Maria Domingos and WIM Tasneem Ehab. Angola’s Esperance Caxita, WFM Sune du Toit of South Africa and Elgine Crea of the Seychelles are a further one and a half a points behind on 4 points.

The Gold Medal positions at the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships taking place in the Seychelles appear to have been decided with a round to spare after both IM David Silva of Angola and WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt secured decisive victories in the Open Section and the Girl’s Section respectively.
IM Silva won his game against compatriot CM Silvio Famorosa in one of his quickest games as he maintained his one point advantage over his nearest challenger IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt. Since IM Silva defeated IM Fawzy in the third round, this first tie-break consideration favours him should they end up with the same number of points after the final round. The top seeded IM Fawzy of Egypt produced another patient performance in defeating FM Cristian Aguiar of Angola on Board 2. On Board 3 South Africa’s CM Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout produced a memorable performance in defeating IM Ali Nassr of Algeria. Meanwhile Zimbabwe’s unrated Jemusse Zhemba also reached new heights in his victory over Nigeria’s Daniel Anwuli on Board 4. On Board 5 the second seeded FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar was taken to the limit before defeating Elias Musonda of Zambia in another marathon encounter. Zambia’s other representative Joshua Mulauzi had a narrow escape in his victory in another marathon game against Mohamud Hussein Ali of Somalia on Board 6. South Africa’s FM Alessandro Claudio Crismann and Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fezari were the other notable winners in Round 8 when they defeated Kenya’s Moses Maina and Zimbabwe’s Donald Mashiri respectively.
As the tournament enters the final round, the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships waits to crown IM David Silva of Angola currently on 7.5 points as the Open Section Winner. IM Adhan Fawzy of Egypt, currently in second place on 6.5 points can claim the Silver Medal with victory in the final round. FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar, CM Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout of South Africa and Jemusse Zhemba of Zimbabwe are in a three-way tie for third position on 5.5 points.
WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt is also favoured to be crowned the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships Girls Section Winner after her victory over the Seychelles youngster Elgine Crea on the top board as her tie-break advantage is superior to her nearest challengers WIM Tasneem Ehab of Egypt and Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos. On Board 2 WIM Tasneem Ehab of Egypt overcame the challenge of the defending champion WIM Esperance Caxita of Angola. WIM Maria Domingos defeated Joyce Nyaruai of Kenya on Board 3 to maintain her challenge for the Silver Medal.
With the final round to come WIM Shahenda Wafa is now 7.5 points and is virtually assured of the Girl’s Section crown. Still in joint second place are WIM Maria Domingos and WIM Tasneem Ehab who have now moved 6.5 points.
Last Round 9 pairings: Open Section – Girls Section
2015 AJCC-ROUND 9: ANGOLA AND EGYPT SWEEP AWARDS
The final day of the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships in the Seychelles became a story of the dominance of two nations; Angola and Egypt.
Having already been assured of the Gold Medal in the Open Section, IM David Silva of Angola secured a quick draw with Zimbabwe’s Jemusse Zhemba in the final round on Board 1 to end the championships with 8 points. Zhemba ended a great performance with 6 points.On Board 2 the top seeded IM Adham Fawzy of Egypt battled to another draw against South Africa’s CM Roland Reinhold Bezuidenhout to end the tournament on 7 points whilst CM Bezuidenhout closed out on 6 points. On Board 3 FM Cristian Aguiar of Angola recovered from his previous round loss to beat the highly rated FM Fy Rakotomaharo of Madagascar. This win moved FM Aguiar to 6 points and secured him the Bronze Medal on tie-break. On Board 4 Daniel Anwuli of Nigeria defeated Zambia’s Joshua Mulauzi to move to 5.5 points whilst Mulauzi remained on 5 points. IM Ali Nassir of Algeria and Angola’s CM Silvio Famorosa played out another draw with both players ending the tournament on 5 points. Elias Musonda of Zambia beat Somalia’s Ali Abdullahi Farah on Board 6 to also end the tournament on 5 points. Other players to end the tournament on 5 points in the Open Section were South Africa’s FM Allesandro Claudio Crismann, Morocco’s Mohamed Amin El Fezari and Burundi’s Ezra Chambers.
With the 2015 African Junior Chess Championships Girls Section Gold Medal assured, WIM Shahenda Wafa of Egypt won a relaxed game against Liza Adeline of the Seychelles to end the tournament on 8.5 points. Angola’s WIM Maria Domingos defeated Elgine Crea of the Seychelles on Board 3 to move to 7.5 points and claim the Silver Medal on tie-break ahead of WIM Tasneem Ehab of Egypt who defeated Jesse Eulentin on Board 2 to also end the tournament on 7.5 points with the Bronze Medal. Angola’s Luzia Pires beat South Africa’s Sune du Toit on Board 4 whilst her compatriot Delfina Joao and Kenya’s Joyce Nyaruai also recorded final day victories over the Seychelles pair of Elza Hoareau and Snegha Pillay respectively.
