Abu Dhabi hosts global chess festival

Abu Dhabi: Over 300 grandmasters from around the world will participate in the 18th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival due to kick off today at the Al Jazira Sports Club in the capital.
The event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The festival is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club (ADCCC).
The ten-day festival will feature an open tournament, junior tournament, blitz competition and simultaneous competition and will give out Dh200,000 in prizes.
The higher organising committee has completed all of the necessary preparations for the festival under the directives of Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the President’s Private Department, and Honorary President of the ADCCC.

not 300 gms – 300 players expected.
there were about 80 players in the under 15 category playing.
about 140 players approximately- mixture of rated and unrated players.
