this is not Vishy’s 5th Oscar. It is his 6th – 97-98, 03-04, & 07-08
Congrats to Vishy again!
It’s boring. Aronian or Carlsen would be better choice.
I was a bit confused in the beginning, but actually this seems to be old news: the ceremony for the 2008(!) Chess Oscar took place in Baku May 7th this year (before the Azerbaijan vs. World rapid match).
Makes me wonder why it is brought up now by Indian media. Just to remind the chess world that (while Carlsen excels in Nanjing) Anand is still around, and still world champion? I agree with Anon 2:39PM that Aronian or Carlsen will be more logical Oscar choices for 2009.
I’m a little confused. Which Chess Oscar is this? It must be for year 2008, but didn’t he already received it??? If not, why does it take so long to actually give someone the little statue when decision is been known for 3/4 of the year?
