Preparations for the 39th edition of “Ikaros” are under way so as everything to be ready on time to welcome and host the Greek and foreigner chess players who will visit the beautiful island of Ikaria this July seeking to combine chess with low cost and relaxing vacations. The 39th International Chess Tournament “Ikaros” 2016 will be held from Monday 11th until Tuesday 19th of July at Aghios Kirykos, the capital town of Ikaria. Prior (on the weekend 9th-10th of July) and also during the tournament various parallel events (including, blitz and rapid tournament, problem solving etc.) will also be held, so this (combined with the beauty of Ikaria) is a good reason for visitors to consider coming to Ikaria earlier!
The main objective of “Ikaros” has always been to offer to all its guests the chance to combine a competitive tournament with pleasant and not expensive vacations. In this respect, once more this year the overall participation cost is kept low (the basic package per person in a double room costs 200 euros for the period 11-19 July and includes accommodation (the board expenses are not included), entry fee, daily transportation to the playing venue and transportation from and to the port of Evdilos, in case this is necessary due to the ferry schedule). Prices get lower in case of triple of four bed rooms, while, as every year, there are special discounts for families, juniors, club teams and unemployed people. Moreover there are additional discounts for those who will pay in advance. Additionally, like the previous years, the organization committee will try to get reduced ferry ticket prices for the tournament participants.
Additionally, this year several side events (rapid/blitz/blind tournaments, problem solving e.g.) during will take place during the weekend prior the main tournament (9-10 July) as well as during the main tournament. The schedule of these events and further details will be announced in a complementary announcement.
The official announcement of the tournament, which, as always, also includes various side events (the annual Mediterranean Team Rapid Tournament, blitz and blind tournaments, problem solving contest etc.) can be found here or can be downloaded as .doc or .pdf.
