Vijayalakshmi makes final GM norm

NEW DELHI: The country’s first Woman Grandmaster, S. Vijayalakshmi, gained her final Grandmaster norm on way to winning the Cutro Open chess tournament in Cutro, Italy, on Tuesday.
In the 22-player event, Vijayalakshmi scored 6.5 points from nine rounds and emerged victorious by half a point.
Vijayalakshmi’s earlier GM norms came in the Paris Open (July 2005) and in the Kavala International Open (Greece, Aug. 2006).
….To become a GM, Vijayalakshmi has to raise her rating from the present 2425 to 2500. From this event, she stands to gain around 25 rating points.
