Topalov, Carlsen, Ivanchuk, Wang, Dominguez and Shirov are invited to play
The fifth international chess superturnament M-Tel Masters will be held from 12th to 23rd May in Sofia, Bulgaria. Six top Grandmasters will play double round robin event in a special glass aquarium to be built on the square in front of the National Theater “Ivan Vazov”.
The participants in this year’s edition are:
– Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), 19th World Chess Champion and current World Championship finalist
– Magnus Carlsen (Norway), the best young chess-player in recent years and current â„– 3 in the world
– Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), the winner of the last year’s M-Tel Masters
– Wang Yue (China), the best chess-player of Asia
– Lenier Dominguez (Cuba), the strongest player in the Latin America and 2008 world blitz champion
– Alexey Shirov (Spain), Finalist of the 2007 World Cup in Khanty Mansiysk
Average rating of the six players is 2753, which makes the Sofia tournament to be 21st category FIDE. M-Tel Masters is part of the global Grand Slam circuit, together with other three strongest tournaments in the world – Corus in Wijk aan Zee (Netherlands), Linares (Spain) and Nanjing (China). Winner in Sofia acquires the right to play in the final tournament of the Grand Slam, which will be held later this year in Bilbao, Spain.
Traditionally, Patron of the tournament will be President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov.
Wang Yue (China), the best chess-player of Asia
Anand is from India and India is in Asia .
Has anyone noticed the absence of Kramik here? The true world champion who was the only one to be Kasparov in a match and who surrendered his title and forced to defend a title he never lost. Danialov is probably responsible as he was with the toilet wires. Also Anand is missing who will illegitimately play Topalov next for the world championship that was stolen from Kramnik. How interesting to see Danialov at the center of all this.
I remember when they nailed poor ole vlad onto the cross. Sad that was. And so unfair.
Wang Yue best chess player of ASIA? I guess the Bulgarians (or chessdom.com ) dont know about countries like Russia, India, Azerbaijan and several others which are in Asia.
Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), 19th World Chess Champion – I dont know if the Bulgarians know that they are making a mockery of Topalov with such phrases.
chessdom has corrected their mistake about Wang Yue’s facts, after I contacted their website co-coordinator. Thats something to appreciate about as I did not really expect them to change it so fast.

I’m sure Danailov installed some cables in Kramnik’s toilet in Elista:)
Susan,
Isn’t it time to close this chat? Too much debils around
Strange, I wonder why they didn’t invite Mamedyarov??
I can understand inviting Wang for Mtel. But why did they invite him for Amber? He is not a great rapid player and unproven in blind chess. Bu would have been a much better choice for Amber.
Wang Yue was invited to Amber because he QUALIFIED for it. He won (with a 2892 performance!) the ‘Rising Stars’ vs ‘Experience’ NH Tournament last year.
Poor Wang is beat very hard in Nice and he will also be in Sofia. Overplayed, in fact!
About Topalov: I fear that world chess will be hurted a lot if he wins the title. We don’t need no warriors as Fisher and Kasparov once were! We need kindness by Anand and friendly people like Aronian, Carlsen, Karjakin, Jakovenko and so on.
okay

He wasn’t outclassed in any of the standard tournments like Grand prix events, linares, corus etc. He is just not a good rapid and blind player.
He won’t do badly at Sophia.

You need kindness? Hey, given me the chess WCC title. I can barely play chess, but I am a very kind person 🙂
Of course the world need controversial warriors like Fischer and Kasparov. They draw far more attention to chess than the “kind and nice” ones. And at this point, chess needs more attention, more popularity. Otherwise chess will fade out in the world of Playstations, on-line computer games and so many other activities today’s generation can entertain itself with.
I think Topalov is the kindest person on the circuit.
Kramnik and co. should not be allowed to play(cheat) chess.
Russian Mafia off the circuit !!!
