2 norms scored so far at 12th North American FIDE Invitational.
With early draws by repetition, FM-elect Marc Arnold secured his second IM norm and WFM Yuanling Yuan scored her final WIM norm. Yuanling needs to bring her rating up to 2200 in order to have all requirements for the WIM title met.
The other norm seeker left is FM Florin Felecan who is in a must win situation against FM Jim Dean.
The games are all live on MonRoi’s World Databank of Chess at http://www.monroi.com/wdc

2 norms! Great news for American Chess!
Way to go Marc!
congrats to both the players, but frankly i must question these tournaments integrity in general. with there being no prizes what incentive do the non-norm seekers really have to put their full effort forward? for example, angelo young in the last round with the white pieces and outrating yuan by 300 or so points agrees to a quick 15 move draw? if those who have titles already and are mainly in the tournament just to give others a chance to get their own norms have no real incentive to try, it makes it difficult to believe these results are truly legitimate.
i think the organizers really should reexamine the structure of these tourneys or make a change of some sort. short draws in the last round like this are not good for any tourney in general and in a tourney where there is no incentive for one of the players to win, it makes it even worse.
recommend a change then instead of just complaining.
if your change is to say put money on it, then open up your pocket book.
the non-norm seekers have elo points to maintain. their elo is what determines if they will get invited.
being an arm chair or next morning quarterback is easy.
put up or shut up.
“what incentive do the non-norm seekers really have to put their full effort forward?”
Ask yourself: do you put your full effort each day of your life?
“in the last round like this are not good for any tourney in general and in a tourney where there is no incentive for one of the players to win, it makes it even worse.”
I propose last rounds in chess tournaments not be counted for norms.
“for example, angelo young in the last round with the white pieces and outrating yuan by 300 or so points agrees to a quick 15 move draw?”
Obviously, Yuan’s opponent Angelo realized Yuan was heavily underrated. If he were to play on and lose, tehn embarassment all over the blog. Good move to avoid such a possibility.
By old Laws of FIDE, if Yuan won the last round game, she would have a one game ‘longer’ norm. Why didn’t she fight on to win that one more game?
“their elo is what determines if they will get invited.”
I thought chess players meant more than just numbers to organizers?? I must have been wrong.
Yeah, you’re wrong. Now grow up and stop whining. How many events have you organized? How much money have you contributed to chess?
Don’t you want to give others a reward when they played good chess.
She Beats IM Tate and FM Stamnov. If you can’t contribute good thing to chess, please just shut-up your mouth.
Yuan & Arnold deserved it
Notice how everyone in the argument is signed in as Anonymous. I give little credence to arguments spouted by those who would not give their names
What’s the diff between anon and chess cheats?
“both Marc Arnold and Yuanling Yuan were given freebie draws by Mehmed Pasalic and Angelo Young, respectively, in their final round games.”
PATHETIC, COMING FROM A QUITTER, ISNT IT?
Every normal person should report this breach of ethics to the adequate FIDE organ.
from what i saw of both games they repeated the position which is a draw by fide and uscf rules.
why don’t you go to dresden this year and petition to have draws abolished from chess except for stalemate and no mating material.
also why don’t you run tournaments and put up your own money or find sponsors and then run things however you see fit.
until you do such don’t complain on organizers that are doing things.
This are jealous people . Put $100 for every win so in order to give incentives to all players. Look on all positive sides … Don’t be greedy, all 8 gruelling games they deserve a break.
“8 gruelling games they deserve a break.”
Exactly what one fellon said to another, while robbing a bank, after making 8 legal deposits.
He also seeme to hint on prearranged games: http://chessmind.powerblogs.com/posts/1214622817.shtml
‘How much money have you contributed to chess?’
I take money from chess, why would I contribute? What am I? Red Cross??
Is there proof of foul play here, dear bloggers?

Another “chess bitch”.
“With early draws by repetition, FM-elect Marc Arnold secured his second IM norm and WFM Yuanling Yuan scored her final WIM norm.”
She really wanted to say:
