Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
In the recently concluded World Amateur Chess Championships, held in Greece – Claus Riemann of Germany (unrated) was doing stupendously well. In fact his picture was splashed on many sites. Then he was searched, there were allegations of cheating, and he physically collapsed during his next game. Why was there no article about this anywhere?
Maybe because the allegation wasn’t proved?
If he is the same person rated in Germanys National Chess Federation he has a high national rating of around 2070 which means in ELO something between 2170 and 2230 (or even more).
So look at the games again: Are there any moves a player of that strength couldn’t find? And keep in mind that sometimes players might have a good day!
I don’t know the games, nor was I there, nor did I know the circumstances but I know the problems of tournaments very very well where people with ELO==0 are allowed to win prizes! Since many years I am voting in my country for tournaments where people without rating are not allowed to win prizes or even attend to special tournaments!
That will always cause problems! Not only because of cheating but of lack of knowledge of real strength, suspicion, defamation, and even faking of names!
And please: Do not post serious allegations which might be wrong! That might be ratfucking!
And next time post your name so we can see if you are just someone who has lost against him and didn’t understand that a ELO==0-player can have a (very) high rating in a different system!
Just my 2¢…
