The USCF declined to send a team to the Women’s World Team Championship due to budget issue. All the other countries accepted the invitation. Obviously the organizer cannot make an exception just for the U.S. It is a pity that top female players from the U.S. will lose out on this opportunity to compete for the world title.
Here is the sequence of what happened as I understand it, including an email from Mr. Bill Hall stating that the USCF has budget problem:
Clarification from Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici, President of the Turkish Chess Federation and FIDE VP:
The USCF did not send their application on the right time for the FIDE Women’s World Tem Championships 2011. Their reactions started politically in FIDE Congress in Krakow, then were followed by the attached e-mail. They tried to negotiate, even after we have decreased hotel prices for event by finding additional sponsorship. They do not understand that this is a sport event, they think they are in Grand Bazaar and may negotiate….
Below is the email which was sent to the Turkish Chess Federation from the U.S. Chess Federation trying to get a special deal:

To the Organizing Committee,
We have budgeted for this event according to the regulations of the previous Women’s World Team held in China. There each team was provided 3 double rooms at no charge for the duration of the event. We actually have 7 individuals that would be traveling, 5 players, a trainer, and a Coach. Each would need a single room.
If you are able to provide conditions as such that three single rooms are provided at no charge, three single rooms are provided at the 60 Euro per night rate, and an additional room at the 120 Euro rate, we would be able to participate. Please let me know as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements if this is agreeable.
The previously announced costs for participation were far beyond what we had budgeted and we were therefore not going to be able to attend; however, if you find this proposal agreeable, we should be able to participate.
Regards,
Bill Hall

So it’s clear that the USCF is just making excuses. They simply have no money.
It’s clear that the US was trying to make Turkey look bad while the problem is internal on the US side.
They never cease to entertain these wonderful little people.
The US should be banned from future international events for this stunt. If they don’t have money to send a team then FIDE should look for a new organization to represent American players.
Despicable. Why didn’t the uscf try to get sponsorship for the women’s team? If this would have been the men’s team, they would have coughed up the money. Double two face standard.
They would not have coughed up the money for the men’s team either. They were going to decline both of the last two years sending the men’s team until Rex stepped and funded the whole thing.
Why not fire all of these idiots? What do they do with the millions they collect each year from dues and scholastic tournaments?
yeah, seriously. What happened to the millions they make each year? Perhaps it’s time for an IRS audit?
You have no idea what you are talking about.
At the peril of Being Honest. The USCF pays me whenever I like and do work for them. I rather doubt its a matter of money. There are great people there…..just sometimes a few pinheads get in a room and concoct these wonderfully ridiculous constructs..There’s some good people in there…and a few pain in the arse morons from what i can see.
Why was there no effort made to raise the additional funds necessary to send the team? Surely someone would have helped!
This sounds political, not economic.
Rob…I think it’s a Russian saying…perhaps I’m wrong. “There are two things people should never be able to see. 1 The making of sausages…and 2 the making of politics.
The spirit of the thought is entirely correct.
Personally …I more of a Steak and Fish sort of person..haha.
Ah yes, it’s better to call the USCF pigs than to show the truth of the situation, which is that the USCF has chosen not to send the women to Turkey for reasons that are not monetary. The choice of Susan and/or Paul to allow such tripe demeans this blog entirely. I guess I will need to stop coming and I will tell all my friends in the surrounding St. Louis area to quit coming here as well.
Throw all the crooked bums out of the USCF. What positive things have they done? Nothing other than milking money for themselves or their friends and acting like big shots.
You mean China could not loan the usa team a few bucks….or maybe the FED could of printed up some of those T-Notes?
Really, not going to the WWTC has nothing to do with money….maybe it has to do with the fact that the usa has no chance to win a medal….so why even bother!
