World Cup 2011
The nominees and all participants for the Chess World Cup announced
The World Chess Cup 2011 will take place 26.08-21.09 in Khanty Mansiysk. It is a knock out competition and includes 128 players. The winner qualifies for the next World Chess Championship Candidates event.
It is a long event, where the winner has to progress through seven consecutive match victories and possible tiebreaks to reach the top position. However, the competition also has one of the biggest prize funds, amounting to 1.6$ million.
Last year’s winner Boris Gelfand went on to win the Candidates matches and will play the World Chess Championship 2012.
The participants in the World Chess Cup include players from Zonal and FIDE World Championship events. Besides them, the FIDE President and the Organizing committee nominees for the World Chess Cup 2011 in Khanty Mansyisk have been announced. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has added to the list the ex world champion GM Kasimdzhanov, GM Sutovsky, GM Peter Heine Nielsen, the young Chinese talent Ding Liren, GM Bologan and GM Moradiabadi. Why didn’t Nakamura accept nomination (which must have come based on rating)? Is he being a big cry baby again?
Dear Susan,
I haven’t seen any information recently in this column about the Hangzhou Womens Tournament. I thought I would pass along this information:
The site for the live-games given by Chess.com is wrong. The correct site, which I found by poking around, is:
http://live.chinaqiyuan.com/chess.html
The 1st round results: all draws.
Also, the blog site given by Chess.com is correct, but the best site to look for news on Hangzhou tournament is:
http://chess.sport.org.cn/

I know Robert Hess 4th place finish US Championship should have gotten him in. Did he decline?
I wonder, why Kramnik isn`t on the list!?
