CORPORATE NORWAY SUPPORTS CHESS
Law firm Simonsen announced today that they are sponsoring Magnus Carlsen with NOK 2 millions. Carlsen’s extreme focus, discipline and determent are an example and an inspiration for our company, says Simonsen. Recently, investment bank Artic Securities also gave him NOK 2 millions.
Magnus is breaking new ground here. None of the companies have signed any similar sponsor contracts before. His extraordinary achievements are winning support and admiration from lawyers and bankers, too, it seems.
The money is needed to pay for his long term training program with Garry Kasparov. According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, Kasparov is paid progressively. His salary follows the results.

Special thanks to one of our Norwegian bloggers for the news.
Nice job Magnus!
I think Kasparov needs to get back into competition and let Magnus learn from him over the board against him. Taking Magnus’ money is despicable. It is like an older child stealing lunch money from a younger child. Magnus will become WC through hard work and patience. Kasparov is a shortcut he doesn’t need because when Magnus is WC, many detractors will say it is Garry who made Magnus WC. This is very fictitious as we all know Magnus has been kicking everyone’s ass on a regular basis, with the exception of Kramnik.
OMG,how much money greedy Kasparov asks for?
2 Million Kroner…
Oh, for god’s sake, anons 12:57 and 7:05. Kasparov is providing a service to Magnus. Not many living people have been classical world chess champion, and not many people are generally considered one of the best two chess players ever (Kasparov is typically considered the best chess player ever; Fischer is sometimes considered the best with Kasaparov number two.
Therefore, there is nothing wrong with Kasparov charging a premium for his services.
Magnus Carlsen isn’t forced to work with Kasparov. He is doing it of his free will. And it has already paid off, both in result and in money. He is now getting sponsor contract he didn’t get before.
And getting the best coach in the world doesn’t steal any glory from Carlsen. It is done in every sport. Some of the other top chess players have a team of coaches and assistants’ to help them in their work.
Carlsen has climbed to the top only with the help of his father and previous coach Simen Agdestein . It’s about time he gets to compete at the same terms as the other players.
Carlsen’s the one making the moves, not Kasparov.
