Chess is a new subject in schools of Moldova

The oldest game of humanity will be included in the curriculum of schools in Moldova since the autumn of this year in accordance with Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova “On some measures of chess sports promoting in the Republic of Moldova”. It states in part: to consider the promotion of chess sports as one of the priorities of the sport development in the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Education and Youth have to include chess module in the curriculum of school discipline “Physical Education” with effect since 2009-2010 school year.
In the Central Chess Club of Chisinau a seminar for trainers, who will coordinate the training process of schoolchildren, was held. It was attended by the representatives from 34 cities and districts of the country. The representative of the Ministry, a member of the Coordinating Council Victor Pegynu spoke with a detailed explanation of the Government’s decision. The chess lessons will be conducted in all schools from September 1, 2009. The General Secretary of Chess Federation of Moldova Fedor Skripchenko made a presentation of just published book “The Program of methodological recommendations for chess training in schools of Moldova”. And at the end of the seminar he presented on behalf of the Federation a set of chess literature of the theoretical and practical training to each participant of the seminar.
And the USCF is doing nothing to promote chess in the schools.
