8 laptops? Nice 🙂
Is this a USCF rated event? The Chess Emporium has their own rating system that they use in their events 🙁
This is a USCF rated event.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
Will participants have to pay for a ASCF membership as it states on the Chess Emporium website. This is a little bit of a burden and may cause out of state players to not participate.
No, they do not. They just have to be a member of one or the other.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
Chess Emporium encourages their own “ASCF” membership system, which inherently takes business away from the USCF. It also has created a local schism whereby kids generally belong to either Chess Emporium or USCF, resulting in smaller tournaments for both Chess Emporium and USCF events. Indeed, most CE students aren’t even aware the USCF exists, and if they are, they are told a USCF membership is only needed for national events. In allowing Chess Emporium to sponsor this event, you are supporting an organization which is at odds with the USCF. I suspect this post will never see publication, but at least you are aware of the perspective of many local parents.
First of all, “I suspect this post will never see publication…” is obviously wrong.
Secondly, sorry but I disagree with your position. Players in my event need to be USCF members since it is a USCF rated event. If they are not, my foundation will take care of their memberships. That means that I am signing up kids who normally would NOT join the USCF.
In addition, over $250,000 in scholarships and prizes will be given out. I do not see that as being a bad thing. No tournament can satisfy everyone, including USCF events.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
My son is an ASCF member, and I just completed his registration with USCF. There are other students affiliated with ASCF that also have USCF memberships. If others sign up as well, great. But don’t we want our kids to learn the game of chess? Isn’t that the goal?
I planed to bring kids to attend this event. We are from other state. When I tried to reserve a hotel, I was confused by the address. Google shows the address for Sunrise Mountain High is in Peoria, not Glendale. If I typed Sunrise Mountain High school and 21200 N 83rd Ave. Glendale, AZ, they are 2 different places.
This made me hard to decide which hotel is closer to the location. Could you reconfirm which one is correct? Thanks.
How many players make a team? Top 3 or 4? Thanks
May I know the Blitz schedule? Is it right after round 7? If our flight is at 9pm, will it be too late to go airport after awards ceremony? Thanks.
Do player have to play in their grade section or can they play up?
