Last week, I spent 4 days in Hollywood and Beverly Hills pitching chess. The great news is Hollywood IS interested in good chess stories. Every studio people I met with LOVED the ideas!
Chess is becoming more accepted than ever. The image of chess is changing! I am confident that we WILL be able to succeed in bringing chess to the mainstream! Stay tune for more news soon!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Recently former heavyweight world boxing champion Lennox Lewis helped to promote chess. The article is so short I have reproduced it here:
LENNOX LEWIS BEATEN BY CHESS CHALLENGERS
Boxing champion-turned-actor LENNOX LEWIS was ‘knocked out’ by four chess masters last week (ends02JUN06) as part of a boardgame bonanza in New York’s Washington Square Park. Lewis, who famously played chess to calm his nerves before a big fight, played 18 matches in a speed chess tournament – and lost only four times. The players who beat the champ each won $1,000 (GBP555) and a certificate boasting ‘I KO’d Lennox Lewis’.
be wary Susan, those Hollywood types will say anything to get you to take your clothes off for them!
I have had a decent screenplay about chess in my head for about 5 years. I would need technical help with moves in games but my idea I think is very interesting, who knows maybe my dream some day will come true. ; )

Great! Sounds like there may be some more additions to “Chess In The Cinema”
What is YOUR favorite movie that includes some chess in it?
It’s great to hear that they are taking interest. The movies I have seen about chess so far is mainly centered around children, not that it’s a bad thing, but such themes may not appeal to the general public, and may portray chess as just merely a game, while it is far more then that. I always thought that the stories of the chess champions and great matches are really great and romantic stories,
and it can really turn into an epic of some sort. It’s a pity that I have seen non of these on the big screen. May be you can consider suggesting such stories to them 🙂
I like the Chess game between Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ (original version).
